He clearly had no control over the ball and Sterling would have just got it back and scored if Fonte didn't also wipe him out. You're not allowed to take out a player with a reckless challenge just because you scrape the ball on the way through 100% penalty.
Totally delusional. Fonte got the ball first and that is that. Even Kevin Friend with his newly acquired fortune from Liverpool's infamous brown envelopes could see that as it is the clearest rule in the book.
Carragher made me laugh with the Sterling penalty shout. He said Fonte lead with a controlled from foot and it was the trailing leg that got the player and ball, therefore it wasn't a penalty because your trailing leg as got to go somewhere. Quite simply, if you can't make the tackle (which should have been with the controlled leading leg) then don't make it. Nobody forced Fonte to dive in and foul Sterling (trailing leg or not). And yes, Fonte did get the ball with the trialing leg but he got the man first and had no control at the point of contact. Personally, I think the referee got most penalty call rights bar Southampton's second shout. Most of the referee's ****-ups were outside the box.
Comments like these are why Liverpool fans are considered some of the most delusional in World football. Had the events of yesterday been the other way around you lot wouod be saying exactly the opposite of what you are saying now, but then again when have referees ever not come to the aid of penaltypool ?
The ref was awful, not saying bias or anything, but just generally piss poor all round. We had loads of possession but looked like we wouldn't score in a brothel. The early wondergoal made it an early uphill battle for us, and personally I never felt we were going to score. Pool weren't great by any stretch, but did enough to win the game. Tight now with 4 points seperating 3rd & 7th. Let's just hope we can find our scoring touch again and you n Spurs go far in Europa and struggle with it
Fair post and I agree the referee was poor. Still think it was only one penalty shout each that was called wrong though.
Me too, though I think we would of got our one if the same player hadn't of dived for one in the 1st minute...
That first one would have really riled me had it been a Liverpool player. At the time I said it had to be a penalty because he simply had no reason to go down, he was through on goal. The replay clearly showed he wasn't touched so the player deserves to be criticised for it IMO.
Stop feeding the animals, guys. Sterling one was a penalty for me, although the fact that Fonte did make (unintentional and uncontrolled ) contact with the ball made it harder for the ref to be certain, so I wouldn't moan too much about it. We've seen far more blatant pens waved away. Like the Joe Allen one, for instance . Penalty all day that one. The first wasn't though, his legs mysteriously gave way under him when he felt a gossamer touch on his shoulder, so I think the lad needs a check-up, he's obviously not well. I haven't seen the highlights or the eternal post-mortem details of each incident, but watching at the time, I agree with those who said the ball bounced of Mig's chest first. All in all, we didn't play too well, and got a few dodgy decisions, but these things go against us just as often, so I'll take them- and the points. Have to say, I wasn't enjoying that game until the 74th minute. I still prefer the blow 'em out of the water in the first half hour method to the solid defence hanging on at the end one.
Winning when playing poorly. The result is far more telling than if we won comfortably. seeing a lot of character from this team
Nah he means Coutinho spanking it in from 30 yards. Apparently he does it all the time in training so it was inevitable.
Only PL team undefeated in 2015 Only PL team that hasn't conceded an away goal in 2015 The UK is our #fortress
Despite all the aggro from our seemingly now resident bridge troll above I still hope it's us and Soton in the top 4.
