The question is does it mean film with best production value and style or most watchable? This year it meant best production value... Most years it means most sickeningly American.
You agree that it was the best 'product' or you think that's what they've gone for? I watch some ****, believe me, I have to, to keep the lady happy but that film was pretentious from the get-go. What the ****ing hell has somebodies life come to when they write **** like that? It seemed rebellious to me, like the director refused to conform to film and tried to do some form of gay poetry on screen, **** that ****. Load of bollocks if you ask me. If I want to watch something 'well shot' then I'll watch Animal Planet or Discovery.
Completely mate, it's very much a filmmakers' film in my eyes. Personally I didn't particularly like it. Made no sense whatsoever.
It's basically just an orgy of self love mate, I follow it pretty closely but all of the awards are a bit of a joke, globes, baftas and emmys included. Just people gushing about how great they all are.
That's why I used to like the Golden Globes mate, for at least a few years Ricky Gervais knocked them all down a peg or two.
There's footage emerged of Michael Keaton putting his 'acceptance speech' back in his jacket pocket after losing out to Eddie Redmayne for best actor. If it's true that it was his speech (which he'll deny no matter what) what a ****.
I've seen it mate. Definitely a flash card with his speech on it. To be fair to him all of the nominee's will have written a speech, they have to. That speech is huge in terms of their legacy and their future career. De Niro's for Raging Bull and Day Lewis for My Left Foot propelled them ridiculously in terms of stature. A win is great but the speech is what people remember and it will increase their going rates and opportunities. I'd have preferred Keaton win it to be honest. While I didn't like the film, he was great and I'm not a fan of oscar bait like the theory of everything, I don't love biographies of people while they're still rolling.
No doubt the guy is a great actor but keep your ****ing speech in your jacket 'til you get the nod man. As far as I'm concerned, the bloke's a complete chopper.
