At the end of the day players like Mills, Schmeichel and Nugent are all very sellable assets so people thinking we will go bankrupt we could recoup this money if we wanted to

Every player we have signed adds really quality to the club not only on the pitch but also in their resale value. If we get in the PL their values will shoot up.

With us spending on money on players from championship clubs it makes the divison better. Take yesterday for example. We paid 4.5M for Matt Mills which means Reading have 4.5M to spend and need a centre half. Lets say they spend that 4.5M on signing other players from the championship which means the a domino effect where loads of championship clubs are spending alot of money when really its the same money going around everywhere if you get what i mean.

So far we have spent 8M and 7M has stayed in this divison

i actually think 4 of your 6 signings arn't promotion material if i'm being honest.

Peltier - made of alot mistakes for town last year and crumbles well under pressure (how i know my mrs is a town fan)

Nugent - this lad is great with the ball, but as a striker can't hit a barn door, 14 goals last season 16 in total for his career at portsmouth and 6 for burnley while on loan! Total of:22 goals in 105 games. You need another striker

Kasper - As a leeds fan ill say this: Cant command his area, cant catch, can't organise a defence, blames others before himself. But hes a class shot stopper and at times can win you games.

St Ledger - Needs to show his form that got him the move to boro. As at this moment in time, he was involved in Boro's relegation to the championship and prestons relegation to league 1
----------

Danns - class player will do well sat with king in the middle

Mills - how much???? good defender, and great in the air. but how much???? crazy money

thanks friend...........i feel much better now....only 4 though ? are you sure? can't understand how we managed to stumble over one class player though...that worries me... your right...much better to follow mad kens strategy... and re model your stadium..god knows it needs it.....no..keep your money in your pocket..im sure leeds will be right up there next season.....

We arent just picking players out the air and signing them

Derek Fazackerley knows all about Lee Peltier and if he didnt think he was good enough i think we may of broke the bank to get Kyle Naughton back, but we seen a cheaper alternative in Peltier

Sven has worked with Kasper Schmeichel and Matt Mills at Man City so he knows all about them plus they are both proven class at this level and both have the potential to make it in the prem.

Sean St. Ledger was about to sign for Middlesborough for 4.5M a year and half back but Gareth Southgate lost his job so the deal was scrapped. He didnt have the greatest season last season but no one did at Preston. Iain Hume was the only player to come out of that with any sort of credit

David Nugent scored 14 goals in a very troubled team playing out of position. Back in his Preston days he was in the England squad and he was the best player in this league.

Neil Danns was a class act in a poor palace midfield and with Wellens and King next to him he will flourish even further

We were last year, especially when we finished above a team that brought the yak, Curtis, naughton, sol bamba, Vassell. All players who you would expect to get you finished at least over leeds united. So we will take our tight wad of a chairman and add to the quality we already have.

If any other club in the Championship had bought just one of these players their fans would be very happy saying what a good signing but we all know people opinions change when they not their player. I've heard comments like Mills is good but not that good at £5m, but putting the fee to one side is he a good player? most fans from all clubs would say yes, proven at this level, the fact that we paid £5m doesn't mean he suddenly becomes an average player at this level. The fee is just a valuation between two clubs of a players worth and whatever the fee the players ability will be the same.

You have to ask yourself – how much of last season was down to the honeymoon feeling after being promoted. When we came up (as Champions), our first season back we narrowly missed the playoff final (cough Kermit).

The following season with the same team (majority) we had one of the worst starts to the campaign ever. Yes I think Mr Sousa had an impact on that – but quality players should, eventually, play together.

So I would simply tell you to be cautious about your ambitions based on last seasons performances – because you might be in for a shock!

Yakubu was here for half a season,
Davies for about 10 games,
Naughton i will give you that one,
Sol Bamba is hardly a big name no one had heard of him until we signing him and even then he only cost 250K
Vassell didnt do a great deal as he was played on the wing and i doubt his wages will break the bank

Not really, you would expect a club the size of Leeds to be there abouts. 7th was decent and i expect us to get playoffs next season. Players like snodgrass/gradel/howson/becchio/somma. All players you were crying out for last year. whereas we have plenty of width, you had to rely on vassell and Gallagher.

We scored something like 81 goals, a better defence would have prob had us promoted (I.e look at norwich)

You and cardiff tried to chance 2 very well known players to help you achieve promotion. Unfortunately you couldn't do it

I agree with Monster, after a terrible start to the season the owners did 'push the boat out' a little, showing ambition, drive and commitment through the purchase of some high quality players - which is great.

Unfortunately like the majority of teams, some of which one could argue had less drive and commitment, we missed out on promotion and so ultimately failed; but you don't really need to be a brain surgeon to work that out, and perhaps you are right again Monster, if some other chairmen had similar ambitions and invested in defensive quality to sure up the squad for example, they could have been in the Premiership instead of wondering what could have been with a little more commitment and belief.

I guess at the end of the season we could look back and think 'at least we gave it our best shot, even though it wasn't quite good enough'.

Looking forward though, an even better signal to the fans is that the owners are continuing to invest financially for our goal of promotion, helping Sven to build a team with an existing core and the addition of younger players with potential, as well as proven ones at this level, whilst still placing an emphasis and a huge amount of commitment in to the youth set up at the club . This is all investment as opposed to any external loans, losses are being absorbed by the company, and they have begun to invest further with the commitment of branding and development of commercial, non-football related business opportunities within the football club and community. If only more owners looked to adopt a similar business model in relation to the behind-the-scene strategies and logistics.

Wow, I'm glad I came online and read a few comments after being soaked several times earlier today, cheered me up no ends; thanks Monster and co.! Think I'll go celebrate with a beer!

Firstly, you're too harsh on Nugent. His career total is partly based on his time in the Premier League. Nobody will make out he was a massive success in the Prem. However, he had 20 goals for Preston a few years ago in the Championship, and 14 goals for Portsmouth last season isn't bad at all. I should also point out that he is NOT going to be our main striker, Sven has bigger targets in mind, the likes of Maynard etc. Nugent is a useful part of the puzzle, not the focal point.

Whilst your assessments on the players we have bought aren't completely ridiculous, you must remember that names aren't everything. If you can generate a good team spirit, competition for places and simple, but effective football, you don't need to rely so much on individuals (take last season's promoted 3 for example). Sven failed to grasp this last season but even with the players he's bringing in I'm already more confident. He's not just going for the names, he's going for some of the best championship players such as Danns and Mills - both of which will be hungry to get to the Premiership, as will Peltier, Schmeichel and St Ledger, whereas Nugent will want to prove the doubters he has and have another crack at it.

You musn't forget we are adding players to a few with real quality already. Andy King, Richie Wellens and Paul Gallagher will all be first teamers next season and are very capable of being in a promotion side. We largely failed last season because Sven had to build a good squad out of a **** one - and those 3 are our only real survivors. We would have finished in the play-offs last season had it started when Sven took over and I'm convinced we will have a better squad next season.

We aren't buying world beaters - but who is? I mean, everyone seems very quick to point out that our signings aren't much good yet I don't see much impressive activity from other clubs, West Ham aside. Ipswich have brought in Chopra who's a good player, Cardiff have got Earnshaw, but despite our activity we are still yet to play our best hand, especially when it comes to strikers. As I've already alluded to, we've not finished yet so don't count your chickens - we've got at least one more big signing that could make all the difference <ok>
