I've been doing a great deal of reading recently regarding the situation in Syria and Iraq since the creation of a Caliphate and ISIS - its has been reported today that the 3 young London girls that fled to Turkey are now in Syria and have joined the 'Jihadist movement'.

One question that troubles me should we (The Government) actually stop (withdraw passports for example) of Muslims that wish to travel to Syria to join up with the Islamic State? and especially so with three (possibly) indoctrinated and impressionable young girls?

Personally I believe if anyone wishes to travel join ISIS then they should be allowed to do so- with the condition they give up their rights to able to return back here.

I'm not a religious person -but I like to think I respect the rights of anyone to practise their faith as long as it does not affect me -albeit the conundrum is now this Caliphate and it's extreme religious/political ideology being practised in Syria that can in effect eventually become a world wide phenomenon - that ultimately can affect me and what I consider my human rights to believe what I that wish to be simply 'Agnostic'.

This thought provoking blog/ article (its a long read but worth it) goes a long way to explain 'What Isis Really Wants'

I think that those 3 travelled to Turkey before going on to Syria so withdrawing their passports before they went would not be an option as the government would not know there final destination.

Parents need too make sure their kids passports aren't easily accessible. Kept in a safe or hidden elsewhere.

Once the kids are 18 they're legally entitled to their own passports and make their own decisions. However stupid.

Diddles, it's not something I know much about, so would you have a view on how much the removal of Saddam had on this, and also, given the state of so many other Countries finances, how are they funding the area?

The blog link I posted above answers those questions - my opinion is removing Saddam has certainly not helped- rightly or wrongly religious extremism was contained in Iraq under Saddam's rule (though Tony Blair would argue otherwise) the consequence of Saddam's removal is a Caliphate has now been installed in the area and it's spreading - what this means in my view - all the butchery & barbarism is done in the 'name of Islam'- Sharia Law in fact if you are a Muslim the 'Jihad' is a holy obligation (some read it a as 'Holy War' other read it as a 'Holy Strife'), hence for the moderate Muslims this situation is difficult for them as they cannot condone all the extremist barbarity because it goes against their faith.

Religious fanatics have been slaughtering in the name of one Gog or another for thousands of years..
I firmly believe that we have got to ban all religion sponsored schools for starters, and certainly in the case of Islam, put far stricter controls what is being preached in Mosques. It is time we woke up to the fact that a lot of people who are classed as British citizens want to change our way of life and we can't keep burying our heads in the sand to what is a fast growing problem..

Quite agree - my stance has always been live and let live - my attitude has changed after reading about the practice of Taqiyya and Sharia - and before anyone accuses me of being an Islamphobe I feel the same way regarding any extreme religious ideology that can ultimately affect my way of life!

The sad reality is how those three supposedly intelligent (described as grade A students) young lasses can be so indoctrinated by such extremist and backward ideals especially so towards women with it's well documented brutality- the mind boggles -Religion is the bane of Humanity

Just a little clarification, taken from a Muslim website.

"If you open a modern Oxford English dictionary, you would probably find the definition of Jihad as “a holy war undertaken by Muslims against non-believers”. This is a very poor definition. Before trying to define what Jihad is, we should first define what it is NOT.

    Jihad is NOT Holy War
Jihad is NOT blowing up one’s self (Suicide is a sin in Islam)
    Hadith : Shahi Bukhari.
    Book 23. Funerals (Al-Janaa'iz).
    Volumn 002, Book 023, Hadith Number 445.
    -----------------------------------------
Narated By Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak : The Prophet (p.b.u.h) said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said, (e.g. if he says, 'If such thing is not true then I am a Jew,' he is really a Jew). And whoever commits suicide with piece of iron will be punished with the same piece of iron in the Hell Fire." Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him."

Jihad is NOT killing innocent people
Jihad is NOT flying a plane into a building packed with civilians
Jihad is NOT fighting out of anger and hatred
Jihad is NOT killing others just because they don’t agree with you
Jihad is NOT killing others just because they are not Muslims

    The real meaning of Jihad
Jihad is an Arabic word from the root Jee Ha Da. It literally means to struggle or strive. Jihad is struggling or striving in the way or sake of Allah. Jihad takes a very important status in the doctrine of Islam and is one of the basic duties for every Muslim.

Though, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the term Holy War. Such a term, or its equivalent doesn’t exist in the Islamic doctrine. The Christian Crusaders in the mid-ages invented this ideology of Holy War.
There is nothing “Holy” about wars. Wars only involve killings and disasters.

    Jihad has many forms,

    • Jihad of the heart/soul (jihad bin nafs/qalb)
    • Jihad by the tongue (jihad bil lisan)
    • Jihad by the pen/knowledge (jihad bil qalam/ilm)
    • Jihad by the hand (jihad bil yad)
    • Jihad by the sword (jihad bis saif)"
As I suggested on ther threads, what's happening over in the Middle East is fascism pure and simple. These monsters have twisted religious dogma as a means to an end.

The word 'Jihad' is an ambiguous term- linguist have argued it's true meaning - one argument is that it could mean 'struggle' or 'strife' the question is in what context?

The texts in Islam distinguish themselves from the texts of other religions by encouraging violence and aggression against people with other religious beliefs to a larger degree. There are also straightforward calls for terror. This has long been a taboo in the research into Islam, but it is a fact that we need to deal with.

    In more detail -
There are 36 references in the Koran to expressions derived from the root qa-ta-la, which indicates fighting, killing or being killed. The expressions derived from the root ja-ha-da, which the word jihad stems from, are more ambiguous since they mean “to struggle” or “to make an effort” rather than killing. Yet almost all of the references derived from this root are found in stories that leave no room for doubt regarding the violent nature of this struggle. Only a single ja-ha-da reference (29:6) explicitly presents the struggle as an inner, spiritual phenomenon, not as an outwardly (usually military) phenomenon. But this sole reference does not carry much weight against the more than 50 references to actual armed struggle in the Koran, and even more in the Hadith. -by Dr. Tina Magaard

We also have to remember that Muhammed is also known as the Prophet Warrior for good reason

One more argument is the term 'Taqiyya' which allows lying to non- Muslims -so Islam can be described as a religion of peace when it suits to state this to a infidel or kafir.

Good read that diddles. It is a frightening regime, what it stands for/intends to do to the vast majority of us, and how so many people are prepard to fall for it.

Any idiot who wants to join should go for it, put on free charter flights. Go live in a ****hole of a hellhole. Then let them self-implode, taking out what remains. I wish it were that simple. Qurayishi decendants bye bye. The quietest Salafism bit is more worrying....underground is far more difficult to manage than the caliphate nonsense.

I'm a very happy church going Methodist.
I defend my faith to anyone who questions it but would never attack a Catholic or Buddhist or cause them harm because of it.
My own country is England and what goes on here is my affair.

If these young women choose to go off to 'fight' for their country they should stay there and give up their right to live here and take all the benefits.
I personally hope they're treat as their religion dictates, second class citizens totally dominated by men.
It will all end in tears and they'll come back pregnant expecting us to look after them.

I would normally have a certain amount of empathy for children's parents-though maybe another argument could be given (purely speculative) - myself being a dad to similar aged daughters, you have to question the missing girls motives and reasons as well as the external indoctrination- what I've seen and been told by two of my daughters Muslim 'school friends' is life as a Muslim girl can be pretty tough -one of the girls told me she has never been loved by her parents they treat her like ****- another lass told me her father recently took all her money from her student loans for his own 'business opportunities' she's and her sisters are often beaten whilst the authorities just had looked the other way. Maybe these three 'jihadi brides' were in similar situations? thinking they would be better off over in Syria.
One thing that perplexed me when the story broke was why did one the girls parents refuse to name their daughter to the press and her photo was redacted? Surely if your child goes missing you'd everything possible for their safe return?.
