Whilst it is still mathematically possible we must strive to finish 1st, then when that is no longer possible 2nd and so on. In a competitive sport I expect the team not settle for anything. Fans can speculate, but the team has always got to strive for the best possible, otherwise what is the point. Realism and analysis are just forum discussion points. When fans can contribute more than just putting money in the team pockets and cheering on the lads it will always remain so. COYR
Absolutely not. You are offering fifth place now or we continue to fight for every point. Fight for every point. Win lose or draw we didnt take the easy, safe, second rate path. Whatever place we get, we earned it. And by we I mean you. Meaning the players. Not us fans. We just talk about stuff.

I've gone on record on here more than once and said that my belief is that we'll fall away from the top four race and will finish, at best, 6th. And yet even would not just accept 5th place at this point in time. I could be wrong, we might finish in the top four. So whilst we're still in the race, I'm not just going to say yes to us failing to get to that winning line, and accept the next best thing instead.
This. Difference between 5th - 7th isn't that substantial to me. Difference between 4th - 5th is. While I'm doubtful that we can score enough to make the CL spots, no one goes to the Olympics and proclaims how happy they'd be to take fourth.
I would think it is fair to say that practically every club lower than 10th place in the PL want us to make the Champions League. Maybe even our old friends down the M27 in League Two. OK, maybe not them.
Heh, yeah, I should've specified 'goes to the Olympics as a contender'. All of those small-country qualifiers who look like they're just relieved to have survived their skeleton run would take 4th in a heartbeat.
As Krueger only said recently... why play football if not to win..? Of course, if you can't win, you try just as hard and you may come second, or third or fourth or indeed fifth. You don't actually settle for, make-do with or take anything. As it says in Saints own manifesto below... You think Saints fans would have learned that by now, instead of settling for making up the numbers.
