I bet David Moyes is having a little chuckle to himself and quite rightly so. LVG is restoring Moyes reputation with each game :D

This. We performed today but the result was wrong.

Maybe van Gaal was on to something before though.

Hes not really. He did nothing wrong today. Just one of those days where it wont go for you. van Persie offered little threat.

Tbf we've been ****e away from home all season. At least today the team selection and the way we attacked showed promise. The goals conceded represent our weak defence, but also the fact we never keep a consistent back 4. Carrick will be back next game, we could have done with him today.

So he couldn't have perhaps taken van Persie off and given Mata or Falcao a go?

    Just a thought.

It's never his fault, it's never his FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAult.

Louis van Gaal, it's never his fault.

Didnt think di maria was very good today so taking him off made sense. Valencia for mcnair was the right call and young made a big difference again.

I would have possibly brought Young on for van Persie but they hardly cost us the game.

Not scoring cost us the game.

If van Persie was having such an off day, and I only had the radio on where it sounded as such, then surely take him off instead of changing both full backs.

RVP seems bomb proof at the moment, when fit he plays. I don't really get why. That's not the only selection I don't get from our boss either.

As we all know though, it all comes down to top four. If we get there it's all going to be ok, right? Playing well and entertaining match paying fans mean nothing.

I don't think we will though to be perfectly frank. Saints win tomorrow and we aren't in top four anymore and will the have a right battle to get back in.

Results are all important. Wins are what's needed. A defeat is only slightly worse than a defeat but the performance was slightly better today. Only slightly.

It will be a tough battle for top 4 and I think it will go right to the wire. Our away form is as **** as our home form is good.

The awful thing is that we are very likely to fall off the top 4 places this weekend. It is ****ing ironic that the only way united can stay in the CL places is the RS beating the saints. Don't get me wrong, even then I'd like them to be slaughtered tomorrow. But there will be a silver lining to any cloud...<whistle>

We played well and between Young coming on and them scoring we completely dominated. It was relentless bit they completely sucker punched us. After that we couldnt get it together again.

Changing the fullbacks was a good call. Shaw wasnt bad but Young helped stretch the pitch. I dont think Falcao would have made a difference as like RvP hes out of form.

Rooney needs to play up top alone.

youd think rvp would be performing for lbvg due to the netherlands connection, maybe a transfer to arsenal next transfer window is on the cards now

    Wasn't in today's squad.

I agree on Rooney, he needs to be played as No.9 and both van Persie and Falcao given a nice long rest.

That way Mata can be accommodated with Di Maria and Young either side and a midfield CM two of Blind and Herrera behind that.

To me, it is patently obvious that this is a formation that will work with the players we have. Take your pick for back four, it's largely unaffected by what's in front of it.

Only King Louis can't see it.

I'm not sure why he played McNair in the first place as a right back, didn't make any sense to me. Young has been our best performer for a while and so I'm not sure why he didn't start too. That would have removed the need to make those two substitutions.

Playing Mata and using Fellaini only if/when needed would also have made sense seeing as we aren't scoring a great deal and he seems to get on the end of a few. All in all a very frustrating selection that for me made the task harder.

I find it hard to believe that he still doesn't know his best formation and the chopping and changing at the back is exacerbating the issues we are having. A settled back four creates trust which is why IMO we are struggling there.

This. I can't believe more people aren't picking up on this. It is changed with every game. How the hell do defenders get to build some understanding or even leadership at the back when they don't know who they'll be playing with next OR in what position.

Yep. I reckon either that or a diamond 4-4-2 like today but with Mata as the attacking midfielder behind a front two of Rooney+Another. Would have been just as good today.

I'll be honest mate I want Saints to win. No disrespect to Saints but I still don't think they'll last the distance and it will now be between us and Livpl.

I saw your post earlier. Was Fellaini needed? I didn't begrudge Fellaini starting, even as the attacking mid, because I was relatively happy with the rest of the team selection. I have to say I think our attacking play was much better. We just lacked the cutting edge up front that's all.
