It's how well our midfield gels that will decide it. Gyan, Whickham and Sessegnon are more of a threat, but will they get the supply? Hopefully our defence will avoid the warm butter impression of Hallowe'en as well, so I'd fancy our chances at home. Especially if you lose Enrique, although from the little I saw of him at the end of last season his heart didn't seem to be in it.

Pogrebnyak is a class act. BUT Gyan, Pogrebnyak, Wickham and Dong-Won as your striker force.... One problem with that is lack of goals!
They managed 42 in 133 games in all competitions between them last season and most in weaker leagues. If none get 15 goals next season, then you may have to think again.

No disrespect but our midfield would tear that one apart!

Gyan, Pogrebnyak, Wickham and Dong-Won OR Ba, Amoebi, Best, Ranger, Loverboy?

    Know which line-up I'd go for ;)

Don't forget we also have Cattermole in there. If they can start passing to each other instead of the oppo it'll hold up better than last term!

I agree with you completely. Although, I feel we will either bring someone else in or play with a packed midfield. I looked at your squad before doing this article.... You have so much quality down the right and the left is er, needs improvement.

I think the derby will be a good game. Think back 3 years to our relegation season, we played out two turgid derbies, but this time round the quality should be much better as both sides have vastly improved.

I still think we will bring in another striker (hopefully Erdinc), and with Ben Arfa playing off the striker, we still have a goal threat.

Admittedly, I know nothing of Don Wong so that could be a gem right there.

It is good to see the North East dominate the transfer market for once, along with the bin dippers.

It's the money supply. Chelsea give LFC silly money for Torres. LFC give it to us for Carroll and Henderson. We spunk it up the wall <laugh>

For me this derby hasnt really got anything to do with individual players in specific positions, its which manager can get the best out of them.

Do you think Pardew has had anything to do with the players you have signed (just the other week you were saying he had nothing to do with those that were sold) so just wondering, if he hasnt it may be a struggle (not just against us but the start of the season, trying to get them all to gel).

Bruce wanted all these players that we have bought (or so we are lead to believe) so it "may" be easier to get them to gel as a team, and not individuals.

You just have to look at Argentina, 150 million front 3 (at least) and they were terrible last night, it should have been 6-2 to columbia last night, it finished 0-0 but more by good luck that any skill involved.

All i am saying is, just because you think your new players are better than our new players (which is your perogotive) doesnt mean you will win, or shouldnt have a little bit of trepidation, and i am not saying we will steam roller you either, it could work the other way and you beat us, **** happens.

Interesting you bring it up, Pardew is revamping our style of play so we keep the ball a lot better and play more exciting, passing football. Cabaye and Marveaux both said Pardew's vision for this season was a key reason behind them signing.

They are going to have a solid defence but their strikeforce is going to be weak.

Definitely not as strong as when it had Bent and Welbeck, but their defence looks a lot better now.
