It's not the Nice that I remember then Smug. For several year in the early nineties, we used to spend every summer in Frejus, just along the coast. We loved our summers there, and would have loved to move there permanently, but for the fact that there's a big difference holidaying there, and living there. You lived there, so you'll understand the difference. We only have great memories of there, as tourists.
There are no docks in Nice, there are ferries to Corsica and Sardinia and super yachts, not container ships, as in docks

Well it is the South of France, I would say the best place is Villefranche, but yes Nice is very nice, apart from the arabs pickpocketing you, which doesn't happen on the port, even though slug in boots says it does.
