When are people going to learn though? If you want to eradicate racism you can't just tell people, "You can't be racist! Because we say so!" These thick racist morons need to be educated, better yet, educate them from childhood so they don't grow to be racists in the first place. You cant just say "Racism is really bad and we don't like it" and expect people, especially these ill educated, knuckle dragging throwbacks so say "ugh....okay, we like black people now". It shouldn't just be about punishing people who are racist, but educating children on the futility and stupidity of racism. And imo not enough is done to remedy that. You are NEVER going to stop people being racist by just telling them they can't be racist and throwing them in prison.
3 people (not fans to me) banned by chelsea Idiot think in this case simple low brow can be attributed to them. It seems some posh element is invved so no excuse at all What shocks me is same sort go to rugby and never get a ban so why does football attract the worst lot? Why do people like this think they can act how they like and if another person didn't record and publish would it have even come to light???
Education sometimes takes a couple of generations to weed out an entrenched prejudice. At the moment, people like those tossers are going to be teaching their own kids their values (I use the term loosely). If education can challenge those ideas, then the young ones might question them and they'll be incrementally driven out of society.
I find the fact that we expect the world to change now in weeks when before to took century's funny It took how many years for women's lib to even secure the vote never mind get to the glass ceiling issues of today Yet we expect today overnight change Ferdinand questioned the will and if there was complacency... I say it must be rammed home time and again until finally these kids you say turn round and tell their parents they are mad
This. Idiots like Rio Ferdinand bleating on the FA not doing enough to fight racism, well, sorry to say Rio, but a football governing body isnt going to be able to eradicate racism mate. Adult grown men, who are currently racist, are more or less going to stay Racist till the day they die no matter what the FA says. Racism isn't a switch in someone you can flick to On or Off, its about education and nurturing. As this country becomes more and more liberal and education and awareness improves, racism, homophobia etc are becoming less and less prevalent and will eventually be eradicated. Rio seems to want the government, or more bizarrely, the FA, to kick down peoples doors hold a gun to their face and say "Stop being racist YA C*NT or ill f**king DO YA!"..........he just doesnt seem to grasp that these things take time, and need to be sorted by the government, schools and general attitude.
I don't think they will. Children learn facts in school but they learn how to be a human being from their parents. If the parents are racist then chances are the children will be - deep seated racism is very hard to eradicate. All that aside, It's human nature to pick out differences, if it isn't race, it's religion, if it isn't religion, it's sexuality, if it isn't ..... I could go on for a few pages! Punishing it were it's found is a good start because it's nigh on impossible to eradicate the source.
Course they will. 500 years ago you were burnt if you weren't Catholic in this country, 50 years ago Black people in America weren't allowed to use the same water fountains as white people. and 40 years ago being gay was illegal, these days gay people are allowed to marry, have children, gay relationships are openly depicted on TV shows, America even has a black President now. It takes time to weed out these prejudices, because once people have these prejudices ingrained into them, more often or not they are too stubborn, or too stupid, to allow themselves to be re educated. The only way you can eradicate these prejudices is too breed them out and teach the next generation the way...... This takes time. You will not cure a racist with reasoning or with prison, no more than you could cure an extremist muslim by sending him to bible camp.
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/05/us/memphis-supervisor-racist-audio/ - just an example of how amendments may have been passed but it hasn't altered the deep seated racism that is still passed down in families and it's that which I believe is almost impossible to eradicate.
Hows that a take? Gay couples were not considered as candidates to adopt because of bigotry and ill education, now they can......
I don't get why the search and punishment isn't greater. What, only 3 chav fans pushed the bloke off the train? but there were many many more on the train chanting.
And how do you suppose they find them? There was only 3-4 people the video showed clear images of. Want them to bring in the 3 scumbags and water board them until they give up their mates? As to their punishment, are the police not charging these people? I know the club have banned them, but surely the police should be pressing charges too?
That's the line of John Barnes, and I agree. Sometimes prison is unavoidable though, but even that won't change their thoughts. If the likes of Norris and that other one who were (eventually) jailed over the Lawrence case, IF their feelings have changed I'd say it was more down to ageing than punishment. Though looking at that Metro train on Tuesday, even middle-age doesn't seem to be any barrier to ignorance, and when I worked on trains and we had the EDL travelling I can confirm that the majority were 30+.
Waterboard the 3 they caught until they give up the names? edit: didn't read the last sentence #thinkalike
And in the 500 years since no catholic is allowed by law to be prime minister or become monarch, The act of settlement is as racist as **** and means nobody from any other religion bar protestantism can hold either title I mentioned. Bottom line is the UK is built on religious bigotry and racist acts of parliament. #freedomforall
Though it's dreadful and should be punished, let's get things in perspective: on the news today, some thug who beat a female police officer unconscious got.... THREE YEARS! ****ing hell, that should be a minimum of 10, and I don't care what rehabilitation does or does not take place.
I love the fact that religion doesnt play a part in our politics any more...it really shouldn't. You only have to look at the US government to see the pitfalls in that
And yet, according to the constitution, the US has no official religion and supposedly secular in its political and government.
