Was a top save. Totally different ball game if we concede first last night,so massive credit to him. Again.
Yep. We were poor, if we had performed like we had been doing we could have got a decent lead but 1-0 at home is a decent result really. Get one in the next leg and they need three.
I think you're as good as through, as I can see you scoring over there, and that'll be that. Watch us draw each other in the next round.............
I agree. We really weren't very good at all. And for all those saying "it doesn't matter-we've won", well we haven't, have we? We're 1-0 up at half time, with potentially a far harder second half to come. A flight to Istanbul sandwiched between 2 tough PL games. This will really show how far we've come recently.
Arsenal 1 - 0 Besiktas, Besiktas 0 - 0 Arsenal, Tottenham 1 - 1 Besiktas & Besiktas 1 - 0 Tottenham. I don't know what people are expecting of us?? They are a really organised team, not sure why everyone was expecting anything other than a tight game?
We won the game, if not the tie. Result first, performance second. Obviously a poor performance is a worry and something that needs to be worked on before the next game, but we won the game and kept a clean sheet, and that was the foremost priority. In that sense, job done. Next week, the job of the second leg starts.
He was sitting in a studio with other pundits. He was relaxed and he told things as they were and as he saw them. He was reasonable and there was no way he could have thought at that time of possible consequences. He is not after all a seasoned politician and it would be unfair to crucify him. The fault is (if anyone was to blame at all) Rodgers. If there is anyone calm enough to take a penalty in a big match, then it is Balotelli. His success rate is >90%. He should have been appointed pen taker if he is on the pitch (even with Gerrard present). Then we would have avoided the dreadful scenes yesterday. Sturridge was clearly annoyed at Henderson's meekness. Henderson made no sign of giving the ball to Balo nor did he resist. He should have made a gesture to Balo, giving him the ball or approving the taking of the pen and he should told Sturridge that he is 100% in favour of Balo taking it instead of shrugging his shoulders and looking at the bench. On this evidence Henderson does not look captain material at all. Lessons need to be learnt. Balo needs to be told firmly that he has to respect team rules. Rodgers need to appoint Balo as pen taker.
You know what I mean- a two-legged game is just like one big game. There are no points or prizes for winning the first leg- just a marginal advantage going into the second.
If I was manager, I'd still have Gerrard first with Mario second. However, neither player would be on the pitch This makes for good reading for this season mind...
Sorry, but I can't agree with this. Gerrard has been around a long time. If he'd been asked that question having just come off the pitch I'm certain he would have been more diplomatic. Being in a studio is no reason for him to forget that he's the captain and as such an ambassador for the club. If there's a conflict of interests then he should not be there because he should be aware of the massive PR damage that can result in giving the media something to get their teeth into. As for it being Rodgers' fault- well maybe, but we can't know that because we don't know what was said, and condemning someone on pure speculation is irrational and unfair.
