Where is the interview? ITV spent 15 minutes talking about the pen and 2 minutes showing Henderson then went to the News
He's the club captain - he talks about disrespect of Mario taking the penalty but it's not disrespectful criticising your own team mates even though he won the match? At the end of the day, would it have been disrespectful if it were stevie who came off the bench and took the penalty? Any other player who did that, Stevie wouldn't have said anything. You say you respect his honesty but Stevie also said Sturridge was very good tonight - he was shocking in my eyes. Stevie wasn't quick to criticise him though ...
Sorry it's the press conference - just reading comments from reporters. He was asked about the penalty incisive and he talked about getting the win which was more important
You don't need one, it's entirely predictable. It's like someone trying a shot from a difficult angle when there's someone in a better position - if it goes in you praise them, if it doesn't you call them a daft twat. Football's like that. It worked, so everything's ok. And it's been useful, because what was probably a communication breakdown has been highlighted and won't be allowed to happen again. With any luck.
I was a little harsh on Hendo earlier - whilst I don't think he's captain material in the long run, he showed no ego re. the penalty. He knew Mario was better and he gave him the ball. Thats actually good leadership.
What happens when he scores from the 90th minute... does it go back round and start from minute 1 again
That's in no way the same. Gerrard's been the number or penalty taker for years every in world football knows it. You need to realise there is more than one issue here. There are four; 1) who the best option for the penalty was 2) who should have taken them penalty on team orders 3) Hendos bollox / confidence for the pen and to be an effective captain 4) Gerrard speaking out on national TV Balotelli is the answer to number one, that's not been debated otherwise by anyone. Hendo was obviously Brod's choice. Again, not really debatable. I thought Hendo given the penalty up showed weakness. He clearly want happy about it but didn't exactly put up a fight. He only joined the celebration properly because Mario forced him too. Of course, you could also say he did very well because he let Balotelli (see point one) have it in the end. The last is a matter of opinion. Perhaps Gerrars shouldn't speak out but I like that and what he actually said was spot on.
when it comes to Mario, he could come off the bench, link up well, win free kicks, change the game and score the winning goal - yet still be criticised...
Re number 3 I said earlier. People who love a moan will say Hendo was weak and should have stood his ground as captain. People who want to see a positive will say he realised Balo probably was the best and rather than cause a huge argument on the pitch like we saw at Everton which possibly distracted the penalty taker... he just let Mario have it for the greater good... Always 2 ways to look at things and we'll never know which option is correct but the most important thing is it went in so
Fair points. And whilst I like pundits speaking the truth, I think gerrard is being biased since its Mario. I don't think he would have had a go at Sturridge or anyone else had they done it. And the honesty is selective - he also said Sturridge was good but we all saw that he was rubbish. So why does Gerrard find it easier to highlight/criticise one player but not the other ...
I think when he hits 88 he goes back in time and we win last year's league please log in to view this image
then rodgers is a... moron... that is all you send on badontelly and expect him not to grab that pen.... c'mon if there's one thing the guy can do its take frees and pens...
I agree - at first, it looked like Hendo was bullied which sparked my comment on how he isn't captain material. But his decision to let Mario take it is what won us the match. Put the team first which is the most important thing.
