This is exactly Cold War tactics. Oil prices have been dropped drastically for one reason, and one reason only. To hurt Putin. The Saudis are in on it. The Yanks and the Brits as well. He's being punished for his expansion, his people and the economy are suffering, and he's starting to flex his Russian Bear muscles. They aren't as scary as some would believe imo, but they sure as hell could cause all sorts of problems if they wanted. To the op, yeah, they could set something off if they get provoked enough. Just saw a documentary on Putin, and he is a sociopath. Anything possible with him...especially if he feels cornered.
