I think Poyet recognises that the media 's interpretation of his previous comments have damaged the relationship, which is why he has written this letter.
Like him as a person ? We dont need to: I dont want him to be my friend, just to do his job. I still think he is a good manager/coach even though he has made mistakes (unlike Bruce who is just ****)

I doubt that he is on borrowed time, as who would we replace him with at this point in the season ? Plus, we have gone through so many managers recently, i've got to a point where I think it doesnt matter who we bring in, any manager will struggle until they have been given time to impose their philosophy on the club. They could bring in Mourinho, and he would do well for half a season before "Sunderland syndrome" kicked in and are results went sour.

I am afraid that we just need to grit our teeth and buckle down.

The only 'sticking together' Gus knows is the pages on his favourite 'Philosophy' magazine after he's ****ed himself silly over it.

After hearing about Gus Poyet's grovelling apology, Sunderland fanatic, former in-ring brawler and current in-bush papper Joe, from Hull (<laugh>) had this to say to our Sky Camera's...

"I just thought, what's he doing, In the bush next to me with that Bacofoil? Then I clapped eyes on his philosophy magazine and put two and two together, the exclusives have been emailed to the editor of the Daily Sport, must dash, there goes Danny Baker with his nob in a Fray Bentos".

    Gus writes letter.

    Sid amazed he can write.

That 4-0 half-time score against Chelsea seems a long time ago. Remember one brilliant Super Kev volley from it like yesterday...

What I would like to think whether the letter is from Gus, the PR bods or whoever that the team have had a clear the air talks and will finally show us, starting this Saturday, that we are a side capable of playing good attacking football and winning a few games to ease the pressure on all of us.
But then that's just me being as optimistic as ever.

    Fair play to him.

There are always those who won't like him, and those that love him but I feel Gus Is being very honest in the letter, things aren't going well right now and we all know it. I don't know how many other managers have had the balls to do anything like this so credit to him as far as I can see

Personally I'm just looking ahead to the Westbrom game, win that and things will be looking good/okay again.

That's unknown but I forgot about the Fray Bentos link to Uruguay. I remember Fray Bentos more for ****ty pies in a tin. Where corned beef comes from can't really be known as salt curing meet has been evident on most continents since ancient times. Yanks believe it to be Irish

Have you had a South American steak? Tastes out of this world.

Corned Beef is from Argentina mate and during the Corned Beef crisis in the 80's they imported it from Brazil. Didn't taste the same though, a human needs to be processed properly and the Brazilians just couldn't get it right...<ok>

Fair play to gus for this, i dont want to see anybody fail at our club, i hope we are well up for it on saturday and things turn around, nothing would please me more than to see everything click and ease into the summer with the added tv money to splash, if gus is still our gaffer then he will have done a good job, if the team shows no heart on saturday then see ya.

This is a very decent thing to do imho, quite unique, he needs us, he knows it.

Ha'way gus get it right, i couldnt give a hoot who's in charge so long as we are getting things right

Reads to me like it's from Gus.

As in, Maggie Byrne sitting him down at her desk and saying "write this and do it now!"

I like the letter. Think it's good that he's trying to salvage relationship with the many fans who've understandably reacted badly to some of the things he's said. From what I've seen on twitter and fb tonight the letter has gone down pretty well with the majority of people, with most adding that it needs to be backed up by a performance on the pitch. Some people have already made their minds up about him and the letter won't change their minds, but I think it'll be a good move with a lot of fans and might illicit a positive atmosphere on Saturday. Remember Cardiff at home last season? That's what we need on Saturday, the roar!

Poyet had backed himself into a corner and had no choice but to issue a statement, whether it's genuine or not is irrelevant.

He's excused himself to the supporters and, if we have any grace, we'll accept it.

He has learned a valuable lesson, the Sunderland supporters love their club and won't have anyone question their loyalty.

We all need to start afresh on Saturday, whatever reservations we have.

    I was in the process of writing a reply on this post and this was what I typed;

"That letter smacks to me of "that's what you are going to say on the website" people like me who have followed SAFC for years are seriously considering not renewing their season cards and walking away - why pay £500 or whatever to watch players pass the ball round the back left to right and back until they lose it when I can stay at home, paint the window sill then watch it dry - only stopping to get another beer out of the fridge. Why criticise the fans some of whom have worked hard all week then scrape enough to go to the match only to be "entertained" by the total football. He made his mouth go (on more than one occasion) and basically said we the fans know f**k all and now he has been told to try and put it right. Load of bollocks"

Then I realised that despite what has been said (and probably regretted by him) I am a Sunderland supporter and I will still be there on Saturday (and the following Saturdays) not booing like some of the simple f**ks but supporting MY TEAM. We are potentially in deep s**t and now is not the time for recriminations but the time to get behind the team starting with WBA on Saturday.
