Anthony Georgiou scored twice and Ismail Azzaoui scored his fifth of the tournament, scoring in every round we've played in so far. Ledley King and Ryan Mason were amongst those who tweeted their support for the youngsters. Nice to see them keeping track. Forest are up next.
Had every intention of going last night but got home late from work, had a little unintentional kip on the sofa and next minute it's 20:00 and I'd missed the first half. Anyone go? What was the game like? Gutted I missed Azzaoui and Onomah play, looked like Georgiou took the plaudits though? Spurs TV should have highlights up of it within the next 24-48 hours, I hope.
**Not sure if the right thread to post it but seeing as he's a young lad and it's hard to judge if he'll come in as a first teamer or loaned straight back out to a Championship side, thought I'd chuck it here. Dele Alli scored for MK last night, in a 2-1 defeat to Bradford, both teams are in play off positions. I think the fears of "Bostock part 2" can be somewhat quashed, when we signed Bostock he had about 4 games to his name and I think all were as a sub, despite showing massive promise it's very hard to judge a young player on such a limited amount of game time. By the time Alli joins us in the Summer, providing he doesn't pick up any knocks he'd have around 80 league games to his name and if he continues scoring at the rate he is, could be looking at around 30 league goals. Quite astonishing for an 18 year old centre midfielder. Very excited about this kid, his write ups from pundits are very promising and his form is proving these pundits may be correct in their praise and predictions for his future.
You missed a decent evenings entertainment. I thought we were the better side for the majority of the game and United looked pretty average in my view. I quite like the way some of our players have developed this season, there's one or two who look as if they continue next season the way they have this one, then they stand a chance of making it.
That's great to hear. I suspect there's a real bite in the younger players' attitudes and performances now, seeing the likes of Mason, Bentaleb, Townsend and Kane all have success can only give the players a huge boost knowing that hard work will be rewarded. Think it's a really exciting time for the club, we're starting to play at a level that I think Poch expects, of course there has and will be more blips but knowing our squad is so collectively young with bags of potential, with more prospects hopefully knocking on the door, it's boding really well at the moment.
Very much so. It gives everyone in the Academy a big boost to see a manager show faith in young players. Something for them to aspire to and shows what hard work can achieve.
Six of the "class of 2012-13" could be in the senior squad next season. That would be some ROI for a 2 year period.
Townsend. He was playing in the first half of that season, but as Spurcat said way back he was running riot and so a loan out (to QPR fortunately) was the logical thing to do. We could get the team sheets for that season and see which kids played a fair number of games and are still on the books (Obika/Luongo/Parrett/Stewart etc are no longer with the club etc) .
I saw the samething echoed by an unnamed youth player in Ashton's article about Levy last week. It was surprisingly nice about Spurs given Ashton's record of getting in trouble with us in the past. How was the turn out last night? I did intend to go but ended up deciding against it for reasons that are too flimsy for me to use as a proper excuse Hopefully there will be another chance to watch them before the end of the season, I always enjoy the academy games when I actually get off my arse and go.
Watched the highlights last night, Azzaoui's finish was really well taken, nicely chipped over the keeper and Georgiou's run up to his goal and then megging the keeper would have been worth going to see that alone, so I'm even more gutted I didn't go now. Utd's freekick was superb too, must be said. How much of a unit is Christian Maghoma though?! From what I could see he towered over Carter-Vickers and he seems like a big lad himself. I presume he's a relation to our former academy player, Jacques Maghoma? Couldn't tell how he played but he has the right build to be a dominant CB.
Nice to see the kids progressing, again. Walker-Peters and Azzaoui got the goals in a 2-1 victory. The young Belgian's scored in every round so far, including a hat-trick against Blackburn. The semi-final's a two legged affair. Be interesting to see where the games are played. Would be nice for the youngsters to have a run out at White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge. The other half of the draw is something of a mess at the moment, for some reason. Arsenal play Crewe tonight. The winner of that plays away at City on Saturday and whoever wins that then plays Leicester or Birmingham. No idea why there's such a backlog on one side and none on the other.
