Manager Steve Cotterill says there is "something special" going on at Bristol City this season. By a_stockhausen Five points clear at the top of League One with 16 games of the campaign to go, City are heading for a first championship title for the club finished top of the old Third Division South in 1955. A serial promotion winner during his time in charge of Cheltenham Town between 1997 and 2002, Cotterill knows what it takes to succeed in English club football and he makes no secret of his desire to finish top of the table in May. please log in to view this image Interestingly enough, City's boss sees similarities between the situation at Whaddon Road back then and current circumstances at Ashton Gate. Citing unity of purpose as a key component in any successful football club, he explained: “There is something special going on at this football club from the board of directors to the management team please log in to view this image to the players and to the fans and back again from the fans to the players to the management team and to the board of directors. “There is not a single person in all that lot who does not want us to win. Because there are so many people involved, you sometimes get a bit of jealousy or a bit of animosity. We have none of that. “I had it (unity) at Cheltenham and I had it at Burnley. Portsmouth was a little bit more difficult and it was getting that way towards the end at Forest. That is something I would work on and do anything to have at the football club. “It’s down to honesty. I don’t know if the club was ready for it or not, but it didn’t have a lot of choice when it employed me. If I work hard, I expect everybody else to work hard. “Thankfully we have that and, for the next ten weeks, we will be absolutely focussed on what we have to do.” City may be clear at the top of the table, but five of their next six fixtures are away from home and Cotterill is calling for one last big push from management staff and players alike. He said: “We now need a little bit extra out of everyone. We cannot just keep on doing what we are doing – we need to do a little bit more to make sure we get what we set out to get from July 1 when we came back.” City trave to Colchester United and Doncaster Rovers for back-to-back away games on Saturday and Tuesday and then take on Rochdale at Ashton Gate on February 28. They then return to the road for successive away fixtures against Leyton Orient, Crawley Town and Yeovil Town. We all agree, Stevie Cotterill is magic… Well, there is a faint whiff of AD's Redandwhitearmy about this side, with Smith in the Gow role and Matt S as The Cheese, Bryan in the Whitehead position, and Aden as the new Collier. We may need to obtain a Norman to sit alongside him for next season though. Hugely impressed these days with Fielding. He looks to have regained what he lost after his England chaos, and compares with Basso and Cash and could even maybe give Gibbo a run for his money. SC was completely right to keep faith in him, even when the rest of us winced at every cross and bobble. Keep it up son !!
Still cannot kick a ball, how many times did he kick the ball out from his kicks and give what should be a attacking move back to the opposition with a throw in.
Don't be so hypercritical about Fielding's kicking. Fewer miskicks than many of the outfield players and not worthy of comment.
I don't think Fielding compares at all with Basso. Basso was brilliant in the Championship. Fielding won't even start next August in the Championship. Convinced Cotterill will bring in another Keeper.
Fielding has become an integral part of a sound defensive unit, it takes time and patience to build that scenario. he will bring in another keeper but don't assume that he won't start next season, he gets better each game, and petty comments about the odd mis-kick from him seem pretty churlish to me..
