It's a strange one, because peanuts aren't a nut at all- they're more like a pea. Yet the allergic reaction to them is similar to that of true nuts. I suppose it's therefore possible to be allergic to one and not the other.

Really, either form is acceptable, but if I was speaking, I would make the "t" sound at the end, not the softer "d". So, to me, that's how it's spelt.
