Tom Ince scored another 2 tonight for Derby making it 5 goals in 3 games. Good move for him. Hope he keeps it going.
Has anyone watched any of the games he has scored in to give an idea why he is banging them in all of a sudden?
Err, we and several other teams have defended like that at times this season! I'll say it again, I couldn't give a flying **** if you disagree with me, think I'm talking ****e, think I'm insane, think you're better than me, think you know it all blah blah blah, he was played out of position, never given a proper chance, mismanaged and we've missed a trick, big time
Completely agree with your assessment. How does a prolific goalscorer as a winger with a then good Championship team, voted as best young player in the Football League, and an excellent performer in U-21 internationals, not find a regular place in a team crying out for a young goalscoring talent? You nailed it....played out of position as a striker, a role that he's not physically suited for, shuttled back and forth on loan and given 10 minute end of the game cameos when injuries convinced Bruce to give him a place on the bench. Total mismanagement of a very talented young player who could have made a difference. Given his current form McLaren will obviously be keen to keep him as they head for promotion to the Premiership. Next year we may regret him playing against us. Big time screw up by Bruce IMO.
It's possible you're completely right but it's also possible that he is still only ready to star at the next level down from us. One thing I'm sure is correct however is that the manager should have found a way to test him in his preferred position and that way we might not be guessing now. In any case, he's still our player and the move has clearly been good for him so all is not lost yet.
Some witty stuff on here, we seem to be discussing well once again. It does look like he was played as a right winger, which I don't recall us trying (maybe once, moving Elmo to LW, but might be wrong, it's early!) Perhaps he needed a better run on the wing, but Elmo has rightly dominated that position and to start switching him around would have been (further) madness. My whole perception of Ince, in the PL, is too lightweight, but who knows. He is scoring goals for fun and that wins matches, let's remember he is still our player. Next season, Elmo, Snodgrass, Ince, all RW(B)s, that should confuse Bruce - in who we trust! UTT.
It was always hard to see how all these wingers would fit in, especially as we don't play with wingers. He's a victim of our confused summer transfer policy.
