But Lampard was offside surely in the ManC game by most definitions, but it wasn't given AND the refs association agreed with the official!

And which ref was it making the dodgy decisions yesterday? Phil Dowd.
Simply not good enough.

We had a similar one against Villa(I think), where Soldado was stood offside for a freekick and the ball hit the post he was nearest too and we scored from the rebound. On MNF Webb was asked about it and he said he didn't think it was offside, although I can't remember why. I think it should've been ruled out and we got lucky but the refs apparently don't. The pundits' justification for the Aguero one seemed to be that it would've gone in anyway, which just makes the rule exceptionally complicated as not only would there have to be a offside decision but then a question of whether the player was interfeering and on top of all that the ref has to decide whether the 'keeper could've saved it anyway. Given how much they're struggling at the moment we should be making the jobs of referees easier, not harder!

Skinny Phil was the worst from what I've seen. Missed the game due to a meeting that dragged on but saw some of the justification for the dive. At least Roy has an excuse, he doesn't want to call his captain a diver, but Phil Neville's just incredibly biased. I think he even called the challenge on Rooney a potential leg breaker! The new Lawrenson on the Beeb.

The "excuse" that he was getting out of the way of a challenge is often used as an excuse for a dive, yet if that was the case then there would be players diving all over the place during the match "avoiding" challenges - yet funnily enough it almost always only happens in the box. Not a fan of Hodgson, shouldn't be on a pundits panel as it puts him in this difficult position.

I don't know which irritated me the most last night, Fat Phil's total ineptness or the England manager talking absolute shyte.
Hodgson was never going to condemn Rooney for diving, but that's part of the problem with picking a panel like that.
His international manager and one of his mates? Pointless asking them.

Kevin Kilbane, on the other hand, has no bias towards or against Rooney.
His analysis was completely accurate:
"There's no contact. Wayne tried to leave his leg in there a little bit, just looking for it. It's still a dive. I really do think that.

Didn't Hodgson say that Gary Neville should give up on punditry to focus on coaching the other day?

Then again, Hodgson also said that punditry is easy - an opinion disproved by Alan Shearer every single week.

As in Rugby, many decisions are at the discretion of the referee. It's nothing new, it's always been that way. And, unless they're going to start using video to validate every single incident in a game, it's always going to leave to subjective decisions in the hands of the referee.

There is nothing subjective about falling like you've been tripped, when there was no contact. If he's jumping out of the way, you don't plant your leg like it's being stepped on. He cheated all day long. Shame on Man Utd doing that to Preston.

I don't think that's really the point. The point is that the ref saw it as a trip. A subjective decision. Maybe one he got wrong, but that happens with subjective decisions.

Not sure you can get a subjective decision wrong, as it's open to interpretation. In this case, objectively, the ref missed the fact that there was no contact and Rooney cannot claim he was avoiding injury by jumping out of the way (which I think, subjectively Bale did when Guzan looked like he was going to scythe him down) because his fall was all wrong. In this case I can't see an argument for it being a foul. You obviously see it differently.

Yes, but subjectively, in the referee's point of view, Rooney was tripped, Or he wouldn't have given a penalty.

Dull as ditch water in the first half of the CL games. Cahill's flick was nice though, Fabregas and Hazard would've been pleased with that.

Woeful defending from Cahill and Terry there. I can't remember the last time they conceded such an easy goal in CL knockouts.

Crap second half from Chelsea, really fortunate PSG didn't get another 3-1 against them. If they defend like that against us at Wembley we'll put more than 5 past them :D

Do these referees look at their decisions and apologise if they screw up,ever? 'Cause I can't off the cuff answer my own question.....
