How is insulting calling you blind to what he did? That is a question. I did not insult you at all, I am also very calm and find you saying I am not insulting ;). Most of it is also not hearsay some of it was in The Echo. And other people came out with other stuff, just because you wish to call it hearsay does not mean others know more about the subject. Your question again is silly. I have said I thank him of being part of saving the club more then a few times, so it is kind of obvious. But I also have the right to criticise him when I feel it is due.

I will move on now tho. You can have your opinion and I will have mine.

TSS - I was enthusing over him for sure, but even on that night I also pointed how poorly he treated some people within that room; those that worked for him among him. I also noticed that he gave me a second glance when I didn't accept his "brush off" answer to one of my questions. He gave me a second look as though to say, "do you know who I am"...

Anyway I've read through yours and Beefy's posts on this and see a big middle ground. He did wonders for our club; he acted like a dick at times and was both great and appalling in his management. I think some of Beefy's Beefs :))) are minor and not serious and some **** happens, but some of his beefs (I did that again) are justified. Cortège got carried away with his own ego and self importance. I'm glad he's gone.

We wouldn't have the club today if Cortese hadn't arrived.

I'm equally sure we wouldn't have the club we have today and will have tomorrow if he had stayed. I think he was heading to **** it up.

Yep. We'd still possibly have a statue of Milan Mandaric outside of St Marys if it wasn't for him. Crikey, what a thought..!

Btw, one of the reasons why I asked about whether anyone had clicked on the Mary Corbett link was whether it WORKED or not. If anyone gave a direct view about the subject then I know it did. I placed it there and that's not a guarantee that it'll work for others. :emoticon-0126-nerd:

I agree some of my Beefs(yep) are minor. But I was more trying to get my point across that he wasn't the best thing ever.

Of course you can and so can I. And you may not think or intend to insult someone, but that person is the arbiter of that. But I'm my usual reasonable self, so I'll let it go.
I just feel that having the club under these circumstances is better than no club at all. And I accept that he was a heavily flawed bloke. But he saved the club and that's the bottom line for me.

This is what happens when there is no game at the weekend..!

What Cortese did for our club when he first came in was great. He got to us to the PL and I thank him for that. But his massive ego and him wanting to control every little thing at this club was threatening to drag the club down again. In hindsight his departure was at an ideal time. Obviously I didn't think this at the time because we had no idea what was going to happen next but there's no doubt the club is a happier place for all involved now.

Cortese noticing the club doesn't really mean that much to me. It was an ideal purchase for him precisely in part because it was vulnerable and it wasn't "big" with a lot of baggage, somewhat family-friendly. There wouldn't be much resistance, and it was something that he could put his own stamp on and run autocratically. If it hadn't been us, he would have eventually found another club. And if he'd bought it and we ended up in League Two, no one would think he was so great. Plus it was ML and his cash that really saved the club, not NC's fiscal advice.

I mean, if the previous board hadn't screwed things up so badly he wouldn't have bought it but that doesn't make them heroes. It was just sort of a lucky accident.

But I do give him credit for what he accomplished actually running the club.

Mmmm, I think you have missed a few key things there. For one: no NC, no ML, no club.

    No, I didn't "miss" it. I explained why I don't care.

Does anyone remember who the advisors to the owners are? I'm sure NC had some poor, browbeaten assistant banker financial types who helped him look over the papers. If they make a mistake, maybe NC doesn't advise ML to buy the club. And what of the lawyers who drew up the papers? And Markus Leibherr's mother and wife? If they hadn't existed things would be far different today.

If NC hadn't actually taken a major hand in running the club, he'd be a minor footnote in Saints history.

I think this is a major flaw in your argument, but that is my opinion, the subject has seriously been done to death, no doubt the truth will emerge over the years to come.

The major thing about the thread is the question asked. The answer is, that nobody knows, has he returned to his home planet?

Well I am giving NC full credit (and some blame) for running the club for 5 years. We know he did a lot more than just point at the club and suggest ML buy it.

I'm saying IF that had been his only role in Saints history, and ML upon taking over had immediately appointed someone else as Director, none of us would be talking about NC right now.

Statue of Milan Mandaric? How dare you? I think he's I think he cuts a rather dashing figure or sartorial elegance.

Does anyone actually read anything..? Can someone indulge me by telling me that the Mary Corbett link worked, please..? It took several attempts to get it working for me.

It worked fine for me - thanks for the link. It reminded me of the old Saints radio station with Mark Dennis and his brother.

Hooray..! Ta. It means I can use that crumbly old method of posting audio in the future, instead of having to sign up to a Google, Yahoo type thing that wants to advertise and keep tracks on me. Cheers.

I did wonder at the time, if Les would leave when Nicola did. But he remained, despite being a Cortese appointment.

Several ways to look it at I guess, but he's been able to keep his job and suffer no interference in it.

Find it strange Les hasn't mentioned Nicola, but then perhaps that is in order to tow the line with Kat and Ralph.
