This seems awfully odd. He's done a fantastic job, built on Rosler's work and although I think they will fall just short of the play offs, can still be extremely happy with the way things have gone. The fact they state he stayed loyal to his current group of players and may be dismissed for failing to spend money in January is a new one on me!

What also caught my attention was the paragraph in the Mirror piece stating Warburton 'flirted' with the Norwich job. Does anyone think this is true? It seemed McNally had tunnel vision with regards Alex Neil - and went straight out and got him. Why are we being linked? Not sure I buy that one at all unless Warburton himself had told his owner he'd like to apply.

With a new stadium on the horizon, this seems like suicide. If its not broke, why fix it? Maybe its a clash of personalities but strange that its only just erupted. Its certainly going to help us.

This is very strange Supers and had Brentford not been a promotion rival this year I would have felt sorry for their fans. A club like Brentford getting promotion to the EPL would certainly upset the 'Status Quo' and the same goes for Bournemouth. Many would argue that small clubs like them would not benefit the EPL but they would be just as deserving as any other club if they made it IMO <ok>

One of my best mates is a brentford fan and they all suspect he's been tapped up by QPR with the back room staff and ceo all heading that way in the summer. Also the owner matthew benham wanted to spend big in january as he thought they'd never get a better chance of promotion to prem, but the others on the transfer board voted against it. One of them being warburton.

I think the QPR link could be credible as fernandes wants to improve their academy and warburtons history and links to youth football especially in liverpool are extremely strong. Also his recruitment of which he organised even under roster was heavily youth based.

He's on a one year rolling contract at brentford and there's rumours he's already informed the club he won't be renewing his contract and Benham now suspects his whole efforts may not be on the team etc. Seems such a waste of a fantastic development, but could quite conceivably see them lose a lot of star players in the summer.

Personally disappointed to see this happen to the bees as I go and watch them with my mate if i'm not at a norwich game and they've played some great football and brought in and had on loan some great young players.

Thanks for that Billy. Interesting stuff and as you say, he'd be a shrewd appointment for QPR... which makes me think its not very likely!

The words 'shrewd' and 'QPR' have never before been seen together in a sentence.

Forgot to mention, i think the major issue is that someone leaked this information to the press (about differences in opinion over level of january investment) and Benham feels undermined. Rumours he's looked abroad / had potential managers lined up incase warburton goes. It's all a big mess.

Do you think the Norwich link is nonsense?

I can imagine Warburton would have interested us - he's in a similar mould to Neil. Just not sure I buy into the idea that we are part of the reason he's leaving.

Another case of the glass ceiling in football. Brentford are on the verge of a major breakthrough for the club and what happens? Their manager in this case or often as not top players get pinched by the bigger clubs. It is a shame but that is why football is becoming a bit boring - you can pretty much say what is going to happen well in advance i.e. - Chelsea win the title, Man City second, Man Utd / Arsenal / Southampton scrapping for the 3rd and 4th slots and the relegation 3 coming from the bottom 6. The Championship is a much more interesting league imo.

Just text my mate, he reckons that he spoke or his agent spoke to us, but within rights to do so. All the issues he says really stem from leaking of transfer policy from transfer committee.

Think warburton may have been tempted by norwich job though, he was considered by some lucky to get managers job at brentford. He was previously sporting director and some fans just saw it as a move to not upset apple cart and change a winning use rosler formula. Not sure he's ever got the full credit he deserves as even months after uwe left people still saw the brentford team as uwe's. But warburton sorted most recruitment and has now taken them to the next level i think. So potentially saw an opportunity to prove himself fully and drop the uwe tag slightly.

Not sure if he'd have fit norwich perfectly though, not sure we'll ever know. Think he will go places though, even if he doesn't last as a manager, he will be snapped up to manage a big academy or recruitment somewhere. Thats where he's made a name for himself.
