New QPR boss Chris Ramsey has revealed he is already getting tough with his players in order to keep the club in the Premier League.

Ramsey was given the job at Loftus Road for the rest of the season three days after leading the side to their first away win — and points — of the campaign at Sunderland.

Even though the club had no game over the weekend, Ramsey still put his players through gruelling training sessions on Thursday and Friday and told them not to get carried away by their Sunderland triumph.

He said: “We haven’t got the luxury of taking days off, there are things we have to work on. The players had some time off over the weekend but we are not in the position to be giving days off just because we have won a game.

“Sunderland was a great victory but I didn’t want them to over-celebrate because I think they’re more than capable of doing that every week. I wasn’t surprised that they did it. We were all happy that we beat Sunderland but I told the players that they’re only reaching some of their potential because we have got the ability to go on.”

However, Ramsey admits he is prepared to talk tactics with both director of football Les Ferdinand and the players themselves to come up with the best game plans to secure more victories.

He added: “Les is a fully qualified coach, there is no one that knows about scoring goals better than him, so it’s all hands to the pump. We all talk and there is some collaboration about what we think is best. Whatever ideas you have, you still have to make sure the personnel can execute them.

“There is a lot of experience in the squad, people who have won championships and played around the world. I would be silly not to listen to them. We know we have a big fight and everybody wants to get together and bring stability to the whole situation.”

Ramsey also confirmed top scorer Charlie Austin is on course to return from a foot injury against Hull on Saturday

Good signs. I'm impressed with what I've seen of, and heard from, Ramsey so far.

He comes across, if anything, as too nice so it's good to hear that he also demands a lot from the players and keeps them on their toes.

Telling the players exactly what is required of them means they know they're answerable (at least on the head coach's criteria).

It's all good at the moment (and I hope it continues to and beyond Saturday).

Looks as though when the players go on the pitch they know exactly what they have to do. In the past they seemed to lack a defined role, almost to the point that they were allowed to just roam around the pitch hoping it was right. I know that if you score goals you stand a chance of winning, but what is sure is if you don't concede you don't lose.

To bloody right, If I was on £40K per week I would not stress too much about not having a day off. In fact I would be happy to go mop the toilets and polish the managers shoes after a grueling training session on that sort of money.

Good on you Chris, your making all the right noises!

Not in rapture on his appointment, based on his previous experience only.

After the early media work in the first 2 days, I am now slightly more at ease with the situation.

I'll back him to the end of the season. Longer if he can get them playing.

Admirable words from a real football man, my worry is that Leroy Fer was just starting to hit form and he is now crocked. Faurlin is not available yet either. Can't see many goals coming from midfield which puts Charlie under a lot of pressure.

Delighted that Ramsey has the seat until the end of the season, and the performance against Sunderland was the best I've seen from us for a long time. But Sunderland were almost comically poor, the next 3 games will tell us about the true impact of CR. Surprised to discover that he is almost as old as me at 52, thought he was younger.

Sunderland's performance yesterday didn't exactly enhance our result on Tuesday but we can only beat what's put in front of us. Hull will be a tougher test but we have to be as positive as we were last time out...

Also good to read that he is prepared to listen to the players instead of behaving like a dictator as many managers seem to do.

True pal,but it's just possible that Fer's performance and many others was down to the fact that Ramsey had given him the belief and freedom to show what he really can do.Given that he is now injured, who's to say he can't instill the same in another player, possibly Taarabt,Zarate or Vargas?I for one certainly hope he can!

    Not everyone.

That headline was a bit overstated compared to the content. His quotes were about a minimum obligation to try their hardest and this one is pretty consistent with that sentiment.

I'm not sure Ramsey will throw the media enough juicy morsels to keep them interested for long.
