He's not going to change his mind. There's barely enough room in there for one thought, let alone the possibility of another. Miggins, your initial post in this thread stated: Most women don't want to be respected... That's so clearly untrue, it's laughable that we're still trying to make you see this so many pages later. You then went on to say that women fantasise about rape, therefore they all want to be raped. Again, incredibly untrue. People fantasise about all manner of things - sexual and non sexual. Doesn't mean they would ever actually want it to happen. Lots of men look at women all the time, in magazines, movies, television, everywhere. They see someone beautiful / hot and think to themselves what it would be like. That's a fantasy. They know that they would never do anything in real life (like stalk them, rape them, or even talk to them disrespectfully) because a) respect for women both specific and generally, b) current relationships for the man and the woman, and c) understanding of the consequences. The situation I have suggested above happens all the time. People have fantasies that remain inside their head and that they would hate to ever experience in real life. People fantasise to add something extra to their thought life - not their real life. I strongly disagree with your initial assumption about 'most women', although I admit that some women probably do have this fantasy. However, when you project that into 'therefore women want to be raped', and 'women want to be disrespected', then you're spouting more bullshit than a million heifers on green pasture.
Chazza, I'm not 100% confident about your theories lad. I'd bet 100 crisp green US Dollars that if a bloke had his "fantasy" put on a plate before him, with the knowledge that his missus would never find out, he'd be in there before he had a chance to unzip his Dungarees. I think Miggins is overzealous in his argument and that immediately puts people on the defensive. If he took a more diplomatic approach I feel he'd have raped, sorry I mean reaped, a more positive or at least a less resistive response. His style is one of antagonism even if he doesn't realise it and that alone can kill a reasonable thesis stone dead, regardless of how sound or otherwise it may be. Nevertheless, beneath Alf's needlessly confrontational posts does lie a salient point and if most blokes are totally honest with themselves, they'd know what I'm talking about. Women's minds are wildly unpredictable, especially to themselves. I'd never heard of this notion of Miggins' before but I'm not one bit surprised to hear it, still less that its been scientifically researched. The only thing that surprises me is that Scientists haven't come across even more bizarre findings in relation to that part of the human species. This 50 shades nonsense is only the tip of the iceberg lads. Their inherent manipulative and destructive nature is becoming more and more prevalent as society evolves. In 100 years time men will be extinct, at least to the point of having any meaningful existence at all. The Scientists have a lot more work to do and time is running out..
I think you do most blokes a disservice there, Swords. The idea that the fantasy is handed to him on a platter, and the reality of going through with it, are very different things. Most blokes value their marriages and relationships a bit more than the picture you paint suggests. I still maintain that Miggins is fundamentally wrong in his approach though. Women don't want to be raped. And in any case, if they DID consent to the act because it was what they wanted..... well, it maybe wouldn't be rape, would it? That would be a bit of domination roleplay, with maybe some S&M built in. But as they would be willing and active participants, that hardly sounds like rape. TRUE rape? No woman would honestly want that to happen to them.
I'm inclined to agree that, had Miggins presented his information as a discussion point then there would have been some common ground to be found. It's highly doubtful that common opinion would happen on any actuality of the reasearch. The demographic of this board is possibly a little older than he thinks and I'm sure I'm not alone in knowing people that have suffered as a result of rape and, knowing that, I'd never accept a real world applicatability of any fantasies (still open to a lot of interpretation in my mind). There would have been a more interesting topic in the hysteria surrounding Fifty Shades and the causes of that. When topics are presented evenly, many of us do take a counter stance or play devil's advocate but given the most extreme entrenched view and a load of flak thrown insulting our collective intelligence there'd only ever be a similar amount thrown back and a defensive position adopted. Peoples' interpretation of facts is generally more interesting than the facts themselves IMO. Shame really.
Perhaps they should have let this guy make all the arrangements for a "festive afternoon":- please log in to view this image Dominique Strauss-Kahn's 'swinging lifestyle' shocks France Harrowing testimonies from prostitutes at the former IMF chief’s trial for ‘aggravated pimping’ have exposed the country’s social and economic dark side It is a saga of money, fame and destitute women ferried to luxury locations for sex with powerful men, against a backdrop of economic deprivation and social misery. France has been shaken this week by harrowing testimony from a trial in Lille that not only put in the dock Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former International Monetary Fund chief and one-time French presidential hopeful, but also examined a much wider, depressing picture of poverty, women submitted to sex acts against their will and alleged pimps who referred to them as “livestock”. In court, Strauss-Kahn, 65, the one-time hero of the French left, flatly denied the accusation he aided and abetted the prostitution of seven women – a charge of “aggravated pimping” that carries a 10-year prison sentence. He said he never knew or suspected there were any prostitutes among the many women brought to him by regional French businessmen friends for group sex, at what he termed “festive afternoons” in Europe and the US while he was head of the IMF. But after three days of distressing testimony at a court in Lille – during which two prostitutes said Strauss-Kahn had subjected them to a sex act they did not want, and he self-assuredly explained his appetite for group sex and how his sexual style was “rougher than the average man” – France began considering the wider implications of the vast trial known as the “Carlton Affair”, after the luxury hotel in Lille in which Strauss-Kahn has never set foot, but which was at the centre of the first investigation. please log in to view this image Dominique Alderweireld, also known as Dodo the Pimp, arrives at court. http://www.theguardian.com/world/20...-strauss-kahn-prostitutes-pimping-trial-lille
Strauss-Kahn is obviously so vain he thinks his mere presence in the same room as any woman makes them drop their knickers...
