SOrry if I'm miles behind but I think it's breaking news, after 100 years, this Sunday will be the last edition of the News of the World. The paper will be closing down following the phone hacking scandal, with all the proceeds from sales this Sunday being donated to charity.

    Bit of a drastic decision!

I'll be getting my hands on a copy. If it really is the last ever NOTW, it'll be worth a fewbob a few years down the line.

It's had a good run for it's money. Even before Murdoch took over it was known as the News of the Gutter.

Merely News Corp trying to cover their ass. This disgraceful culture is more indoctrinated in the culture of News Corp than they are letting on. Keep at them

Excellent now if these wet politicians can just clamp down on our media generally I'll be much happier. I honestly believe they are the root of a fair few problems in this country. There has been a general dumbing down of journalism and society generally over the last few years, with the rest of Europe quite rightly looking down their nose at us because of our press. The press in most countries are nothing but leeches, but ours are the worst. Get the privacy laws etc sorted and start printing proper news. To be perfectly honest why anyone is interested if John Terry/Wayne Rooney/Rio Ferdinand have been cheating on their missus I just don't know. A thirst for knowledge is commendable, a thirst for gossip is pathetic.

Agree with this. Glad the NOTW is closing, but this is just Murdoch sacrificing a pawn hoping we will leave the rest of his empire alone.

I don't believe for a second that what went on in that paper does not also go on in the other papers and tv newsrooms of his, it is just that we don't yet have the proof to expose them.

The authorities and public should not let him get away with what he has done just because of this sleazy self serving gesture.

Murdoch is scum and personally I won't be happy until the Sun, Times and all his other companies are gone too.

    Thank you BadAss.

The Beano is the finest thing ever to be printed on paper (or anything else), sir. I hope you agree.
