Man Utd's John O'Shea undergoing Sunderland medical according to the BBC and Skysports news. This follows Wes Brown going for a medical on Wednesday. Looks like its bye bye John.

    Any thoughts?

John-O will be sorely missed, due to his inclusion on the bench covered us for pretty much every position on the pitch. His experience and versatility will be sorely missed. In a season when we appear to be clearing out all dead-weight, we should be keeping at least a few players with knowledge of how United have played over the years. John-O has become part of the furniture at Old Trafford and i'm sure he'll succeed at Sunderland as much as he has here.

All the best you crazy Irishman!

With Scholes gone Giggs getting on a bit, Brown and O'Shea going and Gibson set to leave do you expect more signings to bolster the squad?

You can say that Young and Jones cover 2 of the players going but it still leaves you short on squad depth.

Scholes has already gone. As it stands we are losing 3 central midfielders in Scholes, Gibson and Hargreaves. One centre back in Web Brown, a right back in Gary Neville and a keeper in van der Sar. We have replaced the keeper and the centre back. I believe Young will play in the centre of midfield just behind the attack unless we sign another player who can play that role ie. Nasri. I also think Rooney will play that position more often next season. We have Cleverley back from loan so he can fill in one of the squad vacancies as well.

I don't think we are worse off than last season at all and I am confident we will have a better season than last too.

O'Shea should be good enough for Sunderland. I wasn't too upset about the otehr 2 potentially going but O'Shea is a guy who consistently played 30 games a season in a successful United team and could fulfil a variety of roles. I think he'll be a very good signing for you guys. What I did find strange last season was that he seemed to abandon all technique and composure at times and just tended to hoof the ball up field. But he still did a solid job and is definitely capable of more than hitting the ball aimlessly.

I honestly think O'Shea, with his experience, will be made captain for this season for Sunderland. He played 20 times for us in the league last season, bare in mind he wasn't first choice. And he played 30 games in all competitions. I think he might be your new right back with Brown going in at centre back with Bramble.

Not sure about Brown. If he can stay away from injury he'll be a top player for you. He only played 12 times last season with 7 games in the league but he was behind Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling and Evans for us plus he was injured quit a bit.

I for one will miss as he was a player who could play any position in the back 4 and bailed us out when we had our defensive injury crisis last season.

I wish him well and good luck.

I certainly would have kept O'Shea. Not overly bothered by Wes and Gibson going, although Brown has been a great servant for us, but O'Shea I think plays a key role in our squad.

It's because of players like him that we are successfull, he can fill multiple roles and goes about his work wth no complaints at all. Definitely good enough to play week in week out for Sunderland.

I think he'll be missed, a bit like when Phil Neville went to be honest but if he's a successful as Phil has been, in as much he plays every week, then best of luck to him.

Sounds good. I have to say oshea was the one I wanted us to get iam worried about Browns injuries although he is better than Michael Turner who has a slower turning circle than the qe2.

Oh yeah O'Shea is definitely a cult hero at United and his name will be sang by us years after he leaves. Great servant for us. He's only 30 as well so he has a good 4 years or so left in him I reckon. Brown is probably thought of as the in the same way as O'Shea but there will always be a sense of what if? with him because he has always been a great defender but he has just been unlucky that he has been behind some unbelieveable centre backs in his time here.

John O'Shea has been a good player for united, and to be honest i am a little surprised to see him leave you guys. In my opinion he is a very handy player to have on the fringes of the starting 11 and very rarely disappoints when he gets his chance. He is the type of player that every team needs and will surely be a success at Sunderland.

as both an irishman and a utd supporter,im gutted to see johno leave.he was a key part of our team and hugely experienced in all forms of competition.im still not 100% sold on fabio and rafael replacing him-the talents all there but fabio never lasts longer than 60 minutes, which is a real worry, and rafael has a temper and tackle that always seem to cause trouble.

apart from that,i was hoping he would go down as one of the players that played their entire careers at utd,for his own legacy.much easier to forget the solid but unspectacular players like pnev and butt when they leave the club and go on to play for other clubs for years.

i wish him all the best at SAFC,im sure he'll be a great addition, perhaps even captain, but im more than a little disappointed he wont be at old trafford next season.

You mean legend after his goals against Liverpool and Arsenal, playing in EVERY position (does that make him a perfect footballer?), the ability to score with the leg he didn't swing and nutmegging Figo!!

Fergie has maintained that Brown is one of the most gifted defenders in England, shame about his injuries, there was a time before we got Rio that Brown was our main man in defence, how things could have been different.

Wish them both the best of luck.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish O'shea the best of luck in the near future.

As for options, I surely believe Sir Alex Ferguson has taken this situation into consideration before making decisions. O'shea wasn't the best player, but he ensured he made good use of his loyalty and respect towards others.

I'm personally delighted with our newly added squad members, none of us United supporters are oblivious to the fact Sir Alex Ferguson is forming a younger generation to compete in Europe. We've proven the Premier League opposition doubters wrong on several occasions, the negativity they seem to posses must now end.

The twins will gradually have an immense impact on our current squad if they intend on staying with us for the remainder of their careers. The transfer window has been declared open for a few days, and Sir Alex Ferguson has only announced three signings so far - I believe we have have several more announcements to make in terms of declaring additional players.

Gibson's personal terms I've heard may be too much for Sunderland.

Can someone explain what he's done to deserve big money?
