FF being broadcast from Ewood Park and Bryan Douglas has just been interviewed about the FA Cup win at the Vic in 1962. He had the match programme and a photo of himself leaving the pitch alongside Sir Stan. I remember the game well, we lost 1-0 and Douglas scored but they were in Division 1 and we were in Division 2 . Dennis Viollet had just signed from Utd on the day of the game and was sitting in the players box next to the Boothen Stand during the game. Let's hope this time the roles (and result) are reversed today. Any 'old' Stokies remember that game?
I was in the Boothen end , and my abiding memory is the despicable unsporting action of Bryan Douglas in the lead up to the " goal ". In those days as now offside was offside. But unlike today a pass back to your goalie for him to pick up was ok. Douglas realising he was in an offside position , left the field and stood to the side of our goal. Our defender had the ball and passed it back towards our goalie. Douglas sprinted back on to the pitch , intercepted the back-pass and put it in the net. To me it is unsporting and today would not be allowed. I have still not forgiven Douglas for that.
