Half an hour in and have had enough of the faux reality camera work and the narrative ignoring the tribal divisions that were well established when western travellers and merchants reported back from the area in the 13th century.
The presumption that it was western corruption (undoubtedly it happened) & Saudi imperialism were responsible for the upsurge of the current extremists wanting a caliphate; these have been sporadic from around the 9th century.
Currently the extremist claims to want to turn their back on western developments and return to a lifestyle enjoyed by the prophet is hypocritical to say the least, the prophet did not have the internet, AK47s, oil or a belief enshrined in fear.
Their actions are also as far from the teachings of the Koran as you can get, just as the Inquisition was far removed from Christianity of the Early Roman Church.

The Muslim radical argument is littered with hypocrisy and its' no different than Hitler stating he had God on his side , in fact on every german soldier's belt buckle " Gott mit uns ", "God on our side" was stamped and that regime were as equally evil ,I don't think the narrative ignored the tribal divisions which were emphasised throughout the piece but made reference to recent events which interlocked and assisted in creating the mess that part of the world now finds itself .

It certainly makes you sit up and open your eyes to the world.
Although from an historical viewpoint I'd have to argue that it is of course one sided and full of contradiction etc but it opens the door for a lot of 'interesting theories' about why we went to wear in Afghanistan and Iraq, and whether 9/11 was orchestrated by the US government (and by that, I mean the powerful people behind their puppet G.W.B. The Roosevelt deal shows that politicians do not learn from previous mistakes at all. Take the Arab spring rebellions and the civil war in Syria. 'We' the British and US government supported the rebels against the Assad regime. Why? Because the next phase was to invade Iran for it's oil and having a Syrian government/army as allies would be a vital strategic asset. But they got bit in the arse big time. We armed the rebels with all of the necessary weapons etc, and from the ashes of our ignorance and arrogance, ISIS rose and now pose the biggest threat to global security since the USSR.
Back to the film itself - We see G.I.s angrily conducting retinal scans of tribesmen, getting manicures, bragging about murdering innocents, and barely listening when tribal councils tell them that they’re killing the wrong people. The question to ask is why did these things happen? Why didn't the soldiers listen to the tribal councils? The answer from a cynical viewpoint would be that they (the western governments) want to anger these tribes to create a manufactured threat for the future, so when the time/needs arise they can mobilise their armies and take control of the lands to be exploited for the mineral/natural resources i.e. oil. However, what the idiotic suits behind our governments didn't foresee nor anticipate was the rise of a formidable and terrifying opponent such as ISIS. If you connect it all back, USA and Roosevelt have inadvertently funded the foundations of an extremist Islam 'Wahhabism' across the Arabic/Asian world which bore rise to the likes of Al Qaeda and ISIS. We then went and did the same bloody thing in Syria, only this time, we gave them the weaponry and the capability to attack us and create their own 'country'.

We then also last week had every politician on the planet paying tribute to the brutal deceased king of Saudi Arabia who had a human right record that Stalin himself would have been proud of. Why? Because we need the oil and our money funds the terror organisations of the Arab world.

Just look how dumbed down the news has scarily become in the last few years alone. We are only told what those in power behind the scenes want us to know. That's why I had a rant on here a few weeks back about the bastard weather being dumbed down with that poxy wording 'less cold', 'less warm', 'less windy' being used all the time. We as a nation/western society are being manipulated and controlled by these organisations through very subtle but effective propaganda techniques.

I haven't watched this film but will definitely get around to it. Mr Miggins love this sort of thing.

But I think you're wrong on this statement Bob. It's an argument that politicians spout and it's just wrong. I've taught R.E in the past so trust me I know. Fact is both the Bible and the Qur'an have violent passages and urge followers to violence. Not surprising that the Islamic holy book followed suit as parts of it are taken from the Bible. Islam is about 6 or 7 hundred years lagging behind and we know what Christians were doing back then (Inquisition anyone?).

The Bible and the Qur'an both have messages of peace but because of their origins they are a mishmash of contradictions. Modern Christians ignore the 'bad bits' of the Bible like killing their neighbour for breaking the sabbath by putting over the mower over his front lawn, just as modern Muslims ignore the worse parts of the Qur'an which puts forward a much more supremacist doctrine and urges its followers to destroy infidels (non believers). The 'radical' Imams around the world don't make this stuff up, they point to the Word of The Prophet (the guy who married a girl when she was 6 and consummated the marriage when she was 9). Here's a flavour but there are 109 verses just like this so it's little wonder that the followers of I.S think their mission is divine:

Qur'an 2:191 "Slay them wherever ye find them" (Death to non-believers)

Qur'an 8:12 "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them." (Death to non-believers)

Qur'an 4:89: "If they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them." (Death to apostates)

Qur'an 2:216: "Fighting is prescribed for you, and you dislike it. But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you, and that you love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knows, and you know not." (Urges followers to violence)
