I think he gets harshly criticised. Sky Sports put a stat on screen about him being bottom of the managers that have had one hundred games in charge at Villa but failed to point out he's had the least resources to do his job too. He's expected to use youth players and develop a competitive squad on a shoe string budget. I personally think he's done a decent job there. If they sack him, they even more likely to go down.
Criminal! How has he actually held that job for so long? I hope they go down as they should have sacked him a long long time ago
Was listening to the phone-ins last night and Villa fans were incensed... all of them wanting him gone today He doesn't seem to have any personality at all, I can't see how he inspires his players in any way. His tactics/strategy are non-existent as well. It's true that Lerner is hardly ambitious for that club but I think Lambert should be getting way more out of at least some of those players.
His sacking was expected but I still think it was harsh. Only two players that cost £5m+ and a total spend of just £52.4m over six transfer windows (average of £8.73m per window). In today's PL, that is like doing the week shopping at Poundworld! They spent more on one single player (Darren Bent for £24m) prior to Lambert arriving than Lambert got in any of the three years he was at the club too! Lambert only got a annual figure close to that transfer record once and that was in his first year at the club, a time known for managers getting a bit more money to spend to shape the squad. I've not looked at the outgoings but I'm confident this would make the budget look even smaller if there was one at all.
I don't think its harsh at all, it's been too long and too dull a style of play and really inconsistent
LvG's time as yoonited manager will cease in may if they fail to qualify for next season's CL, his meltdown and mental weakness earlier in the week and his struggle to get to grips with the correct formation for the premier league show his unsuitability to English football. What he did in other league's in other countries has no bearing to his job at OT. But who will they appoint next? please log in to view this image
Hopefully 5th and a semi-final will keep them #deluded enough to give him another summer transfer window. Then he can spunk another £150m up the wall and he can get sacked next January when they're immediately out of the title race again. #vangaalforlife
To make out he's had no resources is utter bollocks. You've got to keep his spending in context and not compare it with the likes of your frivolous splashing of the cash He spend nearly £50m net, which was actually more than double what O'Neill did! In the last 5 seasons Villa are mid table in the premier league spenders. Lamberts problem was that he largely bought a pile of ****e
Last five seasons you say? I'm sure Lambert will take comfort in the knowledge they spent money prior to his arrival. See the figures I posted earlier in this thread... ...Lambert's gross spend at Villa is barely over £50m!
He generated next to nothing from sales as no one wanted to buy the crap he'd brought in. He was given adequate resources given their limited ambition in recent years, but he created an awful side who looked like a solid bet for the drop, and he therefore fully deserved the boot.
