I have now read all the emotionally charged claptrap that I spewed out. You are right Shiny, I did not doubt him. I was absolutely certain SC would be another disastrous manager. And I think I am level headed! So now I think he is somewhere between Nelson Mandela and God. Superhuman and totally infallible? No, but he has done something that I considered impossible in such a short time. To turn us from a club without a decent team, lacking any sort of confidence into (almost) nailed on certainties for promotion.
This wasn't put up to name and shame people, more an example that we should give people a bit of a chance. If I wanted to name and shame there was probably double figure threads that RR created on how we are doomed, but triple figure threads on Sod taking us to the promised land etc etc
We live life in a vacuum and sometimes it sucks, but then again we have found the ability under SC to perform regularly to the desired standard and hopefully achieve our ambitions, and it is so nice to make good comments after several years of the reverse. Thanks Steve.
He has breathed a new life into a tired old club, an energy and confidence which courses through every blade of grass, every rancid cup of tea, every questionable meat pie, every administrative cock-up, every boardroom decision. He has made the rest of the country take note - of a rising force in the west. Gandalf would be most proud !
IMO it sometimes happens like that in football, right man, right club, right time.........long may it continue! Two worrying points to all of this, the more successful he is with us, bigger clubs will be knocking on the door..the 2nd point is, at some point (whenever that is) we will have a poor run of games, how long will it be before fans become restless and start calling for his head? Hey , we're top of the league, right now all good!
I still believe there is an underswell of our supporters who are just waiting for that day, some of the comments you commonly read about how much financial backing was involved by SL and its all down to the quality of the players (No **** Sherlock!) (That he identified and bought!) Some can't take the fact they were wrong about the boring, inept, O'driscoll, the worst manager to ever step through the doors at Ashton Gate. I stood on the East end from 1978 till it was closed and was regularly there during the dark days at the bottom of the league. O'driscoll has been the only manager who was dreadful enough for me to question why I was turning up and parting with my money. (Yes, I never even felt Pulis was as bad) A shaved baboon would have been more appealing (and effective) than that twat..
Very happy with what i said, my only fault was saying it may not be pretty, its been pretty all the way.
Good job he is on a 3 and a half year contract- There are jobs going at the lower end of the Premier league- QPR and Villa and it will only be a matter of time before there are others.- Looking on the skybet odds, Names like Eddie Howe, Karl Robinson and Mark Warburton are featuring and its probably only a matter of time before Cotterills does, I am surprised that it hasn't already.
Maybe the reason is that Lansdown has the clout to keep him here….and we are on the way up. You don't change a winning formula and Cotteril is definitely winning If it were left to me I would padlock him to the new Wedlock Stand
