What with the form of Harry Kane, Andy Carroll, Raheem Sterling, Charlie Austin, Saido Berahino and then Daniel Sturridge coming back to fitness, it's going to be interesting to see how Hodgson picks his attacking side of the England team. Easy to forget Rooney is England captain, but for me I don't see where he goes in the England team at the moment, what would your England team look like with everyone at full fitness?
Bit premature he's had a good half season, I think he needs to prove himself a little first before we build our national team around him.
There's zero chance of Rooney being dropped, neither should he be. You can't not pick Kane on current form, but Woy does have a bit of a dilemma with who else to pick. Not a bad problem though.
How many strikers will be called up? 5 maybe? Rooney is a given (and rightly so) as is Kane in this form, Sterling is the only one on that list that offers anything different so he's in. That leaves two spots for Andy Carroll, Charlie Austin, Saido Berahino or Daniel Sturridge. Sturridge will get in because he's the only one with any real international experience, so its out of the other three for the last place.
Berahino's not exactly setting the world alight at the moment. I like Austin, but I think Carroll just has an edge over him. And of course you have to make room for Tom Ince...
If Hodgson sticks to his 4-2-3-1 formation then Kane won't start unless Welbeck is still injured. First choice will be Sterling - Rooney - Welbeck with Sturridge the loan striker. Second choice probably Sterling - Rooney - Sturridge with Kane up front.
Has to be Kane. If he isn't picked Woy should be sacked on the spot, though he should've been sacked a long while ago, the useless prick.
Excellent scoring record, experience in internationals, can cover multiple positions, has the best work rate of any of the strikers listed, he's the captain... Is that enough to go on?
Not really, he was brilliant before getting injured and now he's come back and been brilliant. Nobody said he's a world beater, but he offers something none of the others do and deserves to be in the running.
Is Danny Ings not being considered? Hes got 8 this season which is pretty good going considering who he plays for. Austin should definitely get a call, for me the forwards should be: Ings, Sturridge, Rooney, Austin, Welbeck, although I'd be tempted to sack Welbeck off in favour of another midfielder. Who do England have coming up?
Oh well in that case Kane and Austin should start the qualifier, no doubt about it. Play Wooney in just behind them both.
I just don't get all the hype surrounding Carroll, personally I believe he is overrated, just my humble opinion for all its worth
