After five years he returned to his former club FC Augsburg, where he worked as youth team co-ordinator for three years.[1] He was named as the new head coach of 1. FSV Mainz 05 on 3 August 2009, after the club was promoted to the Bundesliga.[2] He signed a two-year contract after being promoted to that position from the 1. FSV Mainz 05 Under 19 side.[2] In the 2010–11 season, Tuchel coached Mainz to seven wins in their first seven games, including an away victory over Bayern Munich. The team finished fifth in the rankings. Schalke 04 and Bayer Leverkusen both made approaches for Tuchel in the latter–half of the 2013–14 season.[3] Tuchel led Mainz to a 2014–15 UEFA Europa League spot during the 2013–14 season[4] after finishing the season in seventh place.[5] Tuchel asked to be released from his contract prematurely.[6] Tuchel left the position of head coach on 11 May 2014.[3] However, Mainz refused to release him from his contract. Taken from an article: Tuchel's appointment in August 2009 came around in unusual circumstances. Heidel decided to sack coach Jörn Andersen who had guided the club back to the Bundesliga after a small spell in the second division. It was quite ground-breaking from FSV: the successor in Tuchel had no Bundesliga playing experience, no coaching experience and was only employed by the club for 12 months. In an exclusive talk to an elite audience of sports experts and professors back in 2012, he explained his early management philosophy and how he prepared his squad for each Bundesliga game. Just days after a German Cup exit back then, Tuchel revealed he felt it was the "ideal" time to take over Mainz as a less experienced coach. He decided to take the players on a training camp outside of Mainz to escape the media and supporter pressure. This gave Tuchel the prime opportunity to understand his players better. One problem Tuchel identified was the lack of team-ethic among the squad. Players would arrive at differing times for meals and lack the "respect" of waiting until others had finished. He sought to change this without appearing a control-freak and ruining his new relationship with the squad. "I hadn't even started on my main course yet, when half the team had already finished their meal and left," Tuchel explained. This was the main reason for the change in coach, according to the Mainz trainer. As he inherited a squad with little team camaraderie, Tuchel gradually implemented some rules over the team's meal-time to encourage that players wouldn't leave the meal table until after 20 minutes. Gradually, these "manners" became a natural thing among the Mainz squad and this is something Tuchel stresses in his pre-meal talks. Cutting-Edge Football Although Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have advanced the ‘counter-pressing' strategy in recent years, Tuchel believed Mainz were "ground-breaking" in their first season back in the Bundesliga. Tuchel's tactical-flexibility has been, perhaps, most prominent against Bayern Munich. Mainz have won three of the last nine games against the Bavarians when Tuchel has been in charge, but have lost their last three against the invincible Bayern of the past two seasons. Mainz defeated Bayern 2-1 in Tuchel's first encounter with the record holding German champions using a 4-1-4-1 formation to counter Louis van Gaal's 4-3-3 system. Meanwhile, He also masterminded a 3-2 win over Bayern the following season with a 4-3-2-1 structure. Even then Bayern boss Heynckes said Tuchel was "destined" to train the record-winning German champions one day. I would be happy with this solution ("Ramsey until the end of the season, with Clement taking over in the summer").
Norway, you've convinced me that Tuchel is indeed the man we need. Realistically, do you think it is possible?
Ramsey just gone as short as 7/4 and Clement as short as 4/1. Laudrup as big as 10/1. Looking like Ramsey until end of season then Clement. Would be happy with that.
I wonder if the bookies pay out when a manager/first team coach is only appointed until the end of the year? Especially when a 'permanent' managed is already scheduled to take over?
I'd be happy for Ramsey to have longer. But I wonder how having Ramsey until the end of the season, then a new man appointed soon now, could work if under Ramsey, we (very hopefully) climb up the League. If he does a great job and the owners want to keep him for next season, then they will have a problem if they have already appointed a new man to take over in the summer. I hope they hold off appointing anyone else now, and give Ramsey some time.
Wish TF would just get on with it without sticking crap out there. Ramsey looks refreshing but it will do from a fickle fan base. Harold was that bad I say lose the ego's from our club and grow again from the ground up
Oslo the thing is Clement said he would not leave present club in mid season and Ramsey said he would be happy to take charge until someone is announced. I am sure that Ramsey would have been offered some position in this for the future.
ITV NEWS QPR suffer blow in pursuit of 'dream manager' QPR may find it difficult to make Michael Laudrup their "dream manager", according to the Dane's agent. please log in to view this image Laudrup is not quite as handsome as babe magnet Harry Redknapp. Credit: PA The Hoops, who recorded a first away Barclays Premier League win of the season at Sunderland on Tuesday evening, appear close to appointing Harry Redknapp's successor after chairman Tony Fernandes suggested he has landed his preferred choice. Chris Ramsey has been filling the void on a caretaker basis, with former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood the heavy favourite for the position - although Fernandes' comment on Twitter seemed to distance the club from the 46-year-old. Laudrup is under contract with Qatari club Lekhwiya. Out of respect anyone interested in him should contact the club. I don't think they would let him go because the team are in so many tournaments and competitions. – Laudrup's agent, Bayram Tutumlu Fernandes said his target was "not what anyone thinks", but admitted the appointment was likely to "take a while". Laudrup, sacked by Swansea in February, emerged as the new bookmaker's favourite. If this really is Tony's dream, it may be turning into a nightmare...
It depends. Big clubs like Schalke and Leverkusen who play regularly Champions League football have been refubbed in their approaches in the past couple of seasons. He's on a sabatical at the moment and won't take up any jobs until this summer. Time with the family appears to be his main reason to take a break. Much like Guardiola did between his jobs at Barca and Bayern. The draw of the Premier League combined with our new change in strategy focusing on youth and (hopefully) new facilities on the horizon could tempt him. Reading between the lines of Tony F's tweets, it seems the current set up will be kept until the summer. And it could well be either Clement or Tuchel in the summer as neither want to come before the end of the season. Since I've mentioned Guardiola and the similarites to the two mentioned above. He was ready for Bayern long before the media, especially the navel gazing English media, knew. He made his decision as early as 6-7 months before taking over. If we agree terms with one of Clement or Tuchel now they will have several months to prepare for the job. Which in my opinion is a big selling point.
Questions: 1. Will any "dream manager" still be prepared to take over if we are relegated? If not, why announce it now when it may prove embarrassing down the line. Can't see any of the big names touted about on here being prepared to manage in the Championship. 2. Is Ramsay our best hope of avoiding relegation? In my dreams the manager is Megan Fox. Different sort of dream probably.
If the dream manager is Clement, it would be his first shot at being number one, so I would guess that he would be ok with doing that in the Championship. I'm perfectly happy with Ramsey until the end of the season, and think that he has a good chance of keeping us up.
I wish TF would leave twitter alone as he always seems to make a cock of himself. It's so unprofessional & makes us, as a club, look ****!
You have got to admire Skybet. They put out a Ludraup rumor, tweak their odds to look like everyone's on to a cert and then a few days later announce that it's not him. Nice little bunsen, my son!
Me too, but I'm wondering with Jordan & Hoddle gone if he requires some additional coaching assistance, or perhaps that is just the typical Redknapp / Mark Hughes style of management structure that we are accustomed to, where we brought him in plus Bond & Jordan as a "team"? Perhaps we already have the necessary expertise at the club and this "in house" selection also saves Tony some money, instead of making a sudden rash management change which results in everyone having to re-gel again in a short number of games?
