steady on. Lets not forget there were plenty on here worried about 'big clubs' triggering Sagbo's £5m release fee...
I really should've put a disclaimer saying 'compared to his other performances'. He was still rubbish, but better than usual.
I was confident he'd start at least one striker, but those who were nervous about him sticking to the team from the last game were not being poodles, it's exactly what he's done previously.
That banner came out as soon as Jelavic scored. There were some Villa fans in the corporate seats last night, when the second goal went in a couple of them ran to the away dug-out and started screaming abuse at Lambert and the players, the stewards had to get them back to their seats.
The Villa fans were doing a fair few ironic chants last night, 'going down, going down, going down', 'we're **** and we know we are', etc...
its sad that they had the banner ready to unfurl - its as if they were defeated before they got off their coaches
Watching the game I could understand why we and Villa are in the relegation zone. They were playing exactly the same style as we have been for most of the season - attacking up the wings, brick wall, pass it back, pass it across the field, down the other wing, brick wall etc., etc. We had an excuse through our injuries to key players but Villa are negative. Benteke scored 19 from 34 in 2012-2013, 10 from 26 in 2013-2014 but has dropped to 2 from 13 this season. They played better midfield football than we did (imo) but were going nowhere. Credit to D'Doye, who has an enormous weight on his shoulders but came through well (imo) with his pass to Jelly (lucky deflection Nic but who the hell cares when it goes into the back of the net) and his great effort to secure his first goal. Credit must also go to McGreggor with 2 incredible saves near the end. Good team effort from our blokes but you could see the tension. Some important games coming up and we need to raise our game a little if we are to secure some much needed points. I have seen the same look on Steve Bruces face when they showed close-ups of Lambert. Total and utter despair. But who cares, we got the points and that's what matters.
Great performance last night, all played well and N'Doye looks a real threat. Onwards and upwards. I thought it was funny, Quinny kicked the ball into the stands which landed just in front of me, I think in an ironic gesture being brought on with a minute to go, and a guy gave the ball, I think to his daughter, who put it up her jumper as if she was pregnant and left.
That Gil was meant to be their best player, and he looked skillful but completely wasted on the right wing. He clearly only had a left foot and Brady just sent him back down the line every time and he ended up passing to a defender. He didn't really get chance to run at us once. You can see why they don't score.
In Lambert's interview he was asked if he was aware of the flags, he said he's known about the flags for months!
The worst Aston Villa team i have ever seen. However, You can only beat what is in front of you and Hull City did that very well. Both strikers did great and the defence was superb as were all of th
Great news. We've missed his drive and creativity in MF...and of course those goals!! Just hope his tendonitis is fully cured when he comes back in. With Jelly and N"doye he'll give us a real goal threat.
