I completely forgot that we had him!! At least when he does return it will be like a new signing!!!

Second time to have a collapsed lung doesn't bode well for him.

 

It is a shame but we did know he was injury prone before we bought him and had previous with this injury. Think we can just about write him off for this season.

This is what happens when you take risks on injury-prone players. Feel for De Jong but we can't afford the luxury of spending decent money on players who never play.

 

And I was sooooooooooooooooooo looking forward to seeing him play.

Given he's already had a collapsed lung, not really played and managed to do it again, I am pretty much 100% certain he'll retire before he plays for NUFC. Literally £6m pi$$ed away. Mike won't be happy.

Such a shame as he seemed as close as he has ever been to making his long awaited comeback appearance for NUFC. My son has lived and worked in Germany for many years and said to me at the time we signed De Jong that we would be lucky to see much from him. At the time l hoped that he would be proven wrong, but not this far.
Difficult to know if he will ever be more than a bit part player because of his injury record.
Bit l guess what you've never had you never really miss, l hope he manages to gain his fitness and really make a difference to the side, but there is a nasty suspicion that he is yesterday's man and we signed him a little too late.

 

In the 60's he would have run this off. What a pairing him and Michael Owen would have made.

 

Massive shame. I think that a fit De Jong would probably be Capitan material. We can definitely write him off for this season at the minimum.

 

He had an awful season last year with injuries, so what did anyone expect?

IMO he'll do well to play again for the first team this season.

It's a genuine injury, so good luck to him in overcoming it.

I've had several collapsed lungs (primary spontaneous pneumothorax) when I was younger. If you are prone to it you don't need to be doing exercise for it to happen. First time it happen to me was when I was getting out of bed.

It is most common in young men (late teen/early twenties) and most people grow out of it without the need for surgery. Once he has had surgery it should stop it from happening again.

What I'm trying to say is I wouldn't write him because of this. Re-occurring muscle injuries now that's a different matter.

 

How many lungs were you were born with - to have several collapse and survive you must be like Aqua Man. Do they know what causes it? Or was it just the bed was a bit too soft?
