He looks a lot more powerful than sterling did at his age. His shots really have some venom. He also has a nice habit of turning players inside out.
I assumed it was given because he felt Gerrard went in with studs showing, it was as much from the side as anything really. Not a freekick though and one of many, many weird decisions he made throughout the match. Awful ref.
Liverpool assistant manager Colin Pascoe, speaking to BT Sport: Brendan had to shoot off to catch a plane. Tottenham have been on a great run, it was two good teams but the way we came through was fantastic. Mario has been working hard in training and for the last couple of weeks he's been ill so it's great that he scored the winner. Steven Gerrard felt his hamstring and felt he had to come off. It was important to win tonight, it was a great win and we deserved it. It was important for us tonight to win the game, Tottenham have been on a great run. It was great movement from Mario in the six-yard box. I hope it can be a springboard, he is training hard. The last couple of weeks he's been ill and had gashes on his feet so couldn't get his boots on.
I don't think it was a pen, was saying for consistency. Perhaps what i should have said his they should never have got the free kick as it was a good tackle from Gerrard. Resulted in a offside goal too.
He toe poked the ball away, no way was it for studs showing. Agreed the ref had a stinker though and that was my point, I just went arse about tit in making it lol
Fat **** Phil Dowd is trending on twitter with the amount of abuse he's getting from all fans and neutrals
Agree with rest of the post apart from Sakho who was a bit shaky at times, but don't think you can blame Gerrard for Henderson's poor performance. Henderson isn't the best defensively and he was caught out for their first by following he ball and watching as his man ran off him to collect the 1-2. Lucas does the work in there that neither Gerrard or Hendo can or are able to do.
Said during the game he reminds me a hell of a lot of Sterling but when you compare them shooting you can tell which has been brought up as a winger and which has bee brought up as a forward. Sterling has pace but no real power (upper body strength but not a lot of leg power) where as Ibe is a lot bulkier all round and has a much sweeter strike on him. Think it was Owen that said last week wen Ibe hit the post against Everton, that some players just cant strike a ball like that and he's right. Some players have a natural ability to strike a ball straight and true and Ibe looks like he has that talent.
I think Hendo as been suffering from us not having a recognised striker on the pitch (previously, not tonight). Sure, Sterling could make the runs etc but Sturridge (and Suarez) take a lot of the opposition CBs focus. It leaves space that can be exploited as we saw tonight. Tonight, Hendo suffered because he had more defensive responsibility. Still made a cracking first time right to left cross field pass to Moreno mind.
This is going to sound like very high praise but I'm in no way saying he is as good, just that his playing characteristics are similar but, Ibe reminds me of a young John Barnes; fast, powerful winner that runs at players and can use both get. Knows when to pay and when to be sensible too.
Well I feel Henderson was trying to cover the holes gerrard was leaving but was subsequently caught out of position too. They just don't work together in that part of the pitch. And I did infer that sakho has his shaky moments.
He's a bit of an idiot at times, but there's something about him that you just have to like. He's not nasty or anything like that, just a bit moody but I bet he's a lovely guy if you sat down and had a chat with him 121.
Too many errors to highlight and FFS Ibe's decision making is ahead of where Sterling was when he first broke into the first team and I think that's partly down to loan spells away. He learnt at Birmingham and Derby in real football where as Sterling learnt in the reserves before playing in our 1st team. Sterling still often in my opinion choses the wrong option by either shooting or trying to beat a man and cross to no where but Ibe seems to be better. Making direct runs at players and if nothing on, pulling the ball back to keep possession rather than wasting it.
Maybe, but maybe Henderson should have stuck to his own job and he would have cut out the passes etc. I agree they don't work in a 2, Gerrard needs to be further forward with 2 behind him for it to work really. Lucas needs to get fit soon and we need to invest in a proper DM in the summer either for competition for Lucas or a replacement if he wants to leave... Or we play Can there which should be the long term option. Said a few times, want to see Lovren at RCB and Can in CM going into the next few games.
