The old parallel with England and Spurs still exists, Balotelli scored the winner in the WC against england and now against us. Disappointed but not gutted, hopeful in fact.
I think we both had bad calls.. The Kane penalty would have been soft but if it was given you could see why. Our one was a pen but ref wasn't going to give it. the 2nd Sturridge one I thought was nailed on pen as he came through the back but he won the ball so 50/50 The free kick you scores from was never a free kick (and Gerrard got booked ) then Kane was offside But overall, the worse thing was the amount of bookings! I think Sakho deserved his.. other than that, don't think 1 player deserved their booking really. Ref totally lost control of the game but thankfully, didn't ruin it by having to send someone off for 2 nothing tackles!
Most of Dowd's bookings were soft, but I still don't get why he booked Kane for being pushed by Skrtel. That's just mental. Had he gone over and dragged Sakho off the floor, then I'd understand, but he didn't even do anything.
That’s about right. Horrible from Dowd but as it happens the bad calls came close to evening out and didn’t decide the game. You’d like to think if both sets of fans object to that fat clown show we wouldn’t have to see it again. But they’ll do FA about it, of course. You were set up well to beat us, one more time. We made it close through hard work and decent finishing.
Yeah, I think (biased hat on) we just about deserved the win given how many chances we created. If Kane had Sturridge's chances he'd have bagged a hatrick tonight! Showed his rustiness. You're right, FA will do nothing about the performance... there were 9 yellow cards in the game in which there wasn't a bad tackle in the game (apart from one that Rose didn't get booked for on Ibe which I thought was the worst)
We had Fazio sent off for a far softer penalty at the Etihad earlier this season. The media say that it all evens out over a season but it quite obviously doesn't. If fat Phil had given the penalty he would have had to send off Mignolet and he was certainly not going to do that at Anfield so he bottled it.
No complaints about result although Dowd was again shown wanting as a ref. Decent enough performance and we contributed to a really watchable game. For me though, we cannot hope to turn 'promise' into 'success' with Rose at LB. He is a defensive liability and Davies should have played tonight: there may be games when we can get away with Rose contributing going forwards but tonight was never going to be one of those......
How old to refs have to be before they retire? Dowd is 52. It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't that many inches around the waist too. If you wrote a book about all his controversial decisions, it would make "War and Peace" seem like a short story. Utter ****
Not sure that the ball had gone out, but it's not a red, by any means. No idea how the linesman missed that, but got the Rose one "100% a penalty", in his words. That's the same bloke, too.
Because Kane is Superman. He would have stopped the ball going out and scored! Yes your right, I didn't realise it was so close to the line. Still a penalty though!
Do the linesmen not swap sides at HT like the teams? If so maybe he decided ti even it up by not flagging Kane offside for your 2nd
We were using the Arsenal standard from Saturday, which means that marginal offsides don't really count, for some reason. He also got called off incorrectly twice in the first half. Not a great game for the officials! My main problem with that is that everyone knew Dowd was going to be **** before the game.
Liverpool will miss Gerrard, no doubt of that. I don't think we deserved to lose that but Liverpool's final goal did follow some minutes of them bossing the play, they made it happen. Still pleased with the Spurs performance but we lost our edge in the final 20 minutes of the game and paid the price.
Sounds like a game of top trumps for who had the worse decision given against them You play the offsides then I play the offside that led to a goal, so you play the non penalty so I play the non penalty, you play the 6 yellow cards... and so on
Do you mean in the short term if he's injured or next year when he's gone? In the short term, he doesn't fit the style anymore and our midfield is much easier to get at with him in there due to lack of mobility (no surprise that our 4 clean sheets in a row have stopped as soon as Lucas was out). Long term, we will but more for the name than the player I feel. He'd be brilliant to use for 10-15 games a season, coming off the bench for the last 30 minutes in a attacking midfield role but he doesn't want that and if it's a choice of him going elsewhere or us having to keep him first choice, I think all LFC fans agree that him moving on is the best for all concerned.
Nah, they stay the same side. He wasn't massively off but the decision is a bad one as he's just stood offside the whole time, you get some where the defender/attacker or both are moving quickly so he's just a split second away from being on/off . Kane was also called off in the first half incorrectly but to be fair Mignolet saved it anyway so I think all we lost out on would've been a corner. I can accept mistakes, Ozil's goal was just off on the weekend too but what I don't like is that the ref's association feed us nonsense about 99% of offside decisions being correct. No way is that the case.
