I still don't know how this dispute will pan out and after reading this article it must say it looks very doubtful for Rovers.. Bullet Points... * One of the country’s top judges at London’s High Court today fast-tracked a key court hearing in Bristol Rovers' plans to build a new stadium and sell the Memorial Ground to Sainsbury’s. *Mr Justice Roth scheduled the seven day hearing to begin between May 11 and 15 after being told that it is vital for the club to know by June whether it can hold supermarket giants, Sainsbury's, to a £30m deal. * However, in view of the urgency of the matter he could give an off the cuff decision immediately at the end of the legal argument and then give his reasons in writing at a later date. *Rovers – whose lawyer David Matthias QC told the court - were currently "in the doldrums" in the Conference Premier following relegation from the Football League. * However, Mr Mathias said that the June date was important for keeping the University on board with the scheme. There have been complications over plans for a shared car park used by the University during the week and the stadium on match days. * He told the court that it was felt that if a result was known by June, it was likely that the University " would bear with us" * Sainsbury say that planning conditions were not met by a cut-off date last year, and so they were entitled to terminate the deal which was to buy the memorial stadium for just of £30m * They seek a declaration from the court that the contract with the club is at an end - which would come as a devastating blow to Rovers hopes of completing a move. * Sainsburys agreed with the club that the hearing should be fast tracked. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Key-he...Rovers-plans/story-25997409-detail/story.html It's a desperate situation and I think the stadium is looking doomed, what with the lowly position of Rovers league wise, Sainsburys claim of the contract terms being broken, UWE playing up over time factors, car park plans and usage and the Rovers economic situation. It's a rocky road..
Wiz, did you got Mk dons on Saturday? If so where in the ground? I think I may have been in your row?
How do I go looking for you everygame when I don't know what you look like twat? I was only asking the other if you or Cidered could see yourselves not which one are you. On the original thread; it seems that the city of Bristol simply doesnt want a new stadium - whether it be Rovers or City. I think it's because its football. It's not just Bristol though - it happened here in Swindon a few years ago when Karen Brady's millionaire dad wanted to build STFC a new stadium just off the M4, with hotel etc - the 'NIMBYs' were out in force, protecting Swindon's 'Front Garden' and the council here (which makes Bristol City Council seem like a shining beacon of local authority brilliance) simply debated and debated without making a decision. As soon as Brady gave up and went away however, the new estate of Wichelstowe sprang up - all over that Front Garden - passed without fuss by the Council planners. The NIMBYs were simply overruled or ignored. Its amazing what the attraction of a couple of thousand new council tax payers - as opposed to an events venue that would cost money to police - does to sway a planning decision...
