    No and no...
But it certainly has something to do with football - and Watford.

Only players wearing those shirt numbers scored in Watford matches that month?

Whoops - had forgotten about this.

No barry, but you're on the right track - more to do with just one match that month...

Its a guess, but because of the squad system, no-one wore those numbered shirts in any game in December.

I'll give it to you for that vic - not only did numbers 7 to 11 score all the goals, they actually scored in that order.
    Your turn...

Sorry, I'd forgotten all about this thread!

Which British composer changed his name by deed poll and why?

Elton Hercules John . It came from Elton Dean and Long John Baldry from the band he played with, Bluesology

Gustav Holst dropped the 'von' from his name in 1918 because he was given a job by the YMCA who were worried his name sounded too German.

I suppose SEJ can be classed as a "composer" - not quite what I had in mind though. I was thinking of Gustav Holst. I'll leave you and NZHorn to argue over who should set the next question.

Whatever next Vic. Of course he is a composer. Musical scores for the stage and screen apart from all the music he wrote to keep Bernie in a good standard of living. :emoticon-0100-smile

I would however believe that Gus is a better answer, so I will leave it for friend NZ..

While we're waiting, do you know where SEJ got the Hercules from Frenchie?

I did not mean to belittle SEJ - perish the thought. I'd always thought of him primarily as a performer/songwriter but as you say he has composed for the screen - Lion King comes to mind immediately.

Not 100% sure, but there was a song on the Honky Chateau album called Hercules and there have been suggestions that it came from that. The first verse even mentions Watford.

Ooh I got a busted wing and a hornet sting
Like an out of tune guitar
Ooh she got Hercules on her side
    And Diana in her eyes

You are both correct but Dave is more correct because Vic didn't say that bats held by Englishmen are blind, whereas bats held by other nationalities have much better vision.

    So over to you, Dave.
