Swans official trust members are divided on whether we should try and buy the liberty or not. My vote went against for a number of reasons one being if we take on the stadium we will be responsible for any proposed road works that will need to be done to increase the attendance to a level that we would like, The council will still own outside of the stadium and dont have the money to repair all the pot holes let alone fund any road works that will be needed. the council want us to buy the stadium so that it does shift the problem on our shoulders and we still have to go through the long process through the council to to do anything. .we could end up a lot poorer if we go it alone and wont have any backing through stadco. the time is right for the council but not right for the club at this present time....

bollocks Dai, in a real world the councils, govts want stadia, our major stadia sits 52,400, you can not park there, all public transport. you guys need to visit grounds were public transport is the only option, Sydney Olympic park with 85,000 I was out on a train in 5 minutes

Morn musty,I take on board your comments,it all sounds fabulous. Please remember we are talking about a council here in Swansea who cannot get a quick passage into the city centre correct,ie Neath Road.
The stadium has been built in the wrong area,it should have been built, without a shadow of doubt,on the old Velindre steelworks site.
One question, are the stadiums you mentioned in residential areas?

Swansea's Liberty Stadium could be sold to the football club, the city council has confirmed.

The authority says its held "positive, exploratory" talks with the Swans over the sale.

The council, which owns the ground, said any deal would give the football club "complete control" over the stadium.

However, the needs of the Ospreys rugby side would have to be protected.

The football and rugby union team have shared the stadium since it opened in 2005.

    City finances
Council leader Rob Stewart said: "Positive, exploratory discussions with the Swans have now started about selling the Liberty Stadium to them."

Any deal would help plug the gaping hole in council finances, with the authority looking to make £81m savings over the next three years.

"The potential sale of the Liberty Stadium would generate even more income that would help protect as many services as possible for residents," added Mr Stewart.

A spokesman for Swansea City said: "The talks are only at an early stage and are likely to continue for some time".

Council's desperate to sell, well someone has to pay the wages and expenses for 72 leaches, aka councillors, plus another ten in the 'cabinet' all of whom have done little more than beat our city into the ground for decades.

I think that if the number of leaches was reduced by half (how many are from here anyway), we can use the savings to help grow our commerce giving the city a shot at a prosperous future.

One councillor's office and expenses was said to be over £1.8M not including his salary, bonuses or the two free cars he was issued, one of which is being driven around by his daughter who is in College in Bristol.

Buy the ground immediately I say and reduce our business and dealings with this bunch of thieves, literally. They will take peanuts for the Liberty right now, so the board should give them what they want.

    Buy, buy, buy!

Why would the club be responsible for the maintenance of public highways that are required as thoroughfares for retail and other business in the immediate Landore area. The Liberty is located on a short spur road off a main public road, which is also an entrance to a retail center.

It doesn't make sense to fund extensions to a building we don't own unless there are concessions in usage fees and any shared income is shifted more in our favor. Also if we purchased the Osprey's usage fee would come to us ... wouldn't it.

Because I know the road structures in the area and they support a multitude of business and traffic. There is the entry road off the A4067 and the entry road from the roundabout on Brunel Way. These are both quite short. It doesn't make any sense that the club would assume direct responsibility for maintaining public roads serving the general business community. If what you are referring to are these small spur roads entering the stadium area then I don't see the problem in terms of cost. As an owner of property the club would be paying rates and other taxes on the stadium and premises that should contribute to the cost of maintaining public highways.

When we talk about acquiring the stadium exactly what properties are we taking about. Would the purchase include the land and structures for the two restaurants on the same site. If so the benefit of the leases for those structures would pass to the club - I would presume. If not then those businesses use and benefit from the access roads into the stadium site and they or their landlord would have to share in the burden of access road maintenance.

trust me yankee the road system is adequate for every business in the area except the liberty who causes disruption on match days and there is no way the residence and businesses will allow the liberty to be expanded to a level we need. It would be a massive mistake to take over the liberty until a solution if there is one can be made. Even the police because of cut backs say they wont be able to cope without extra security that will cost thousands on top of what we are paying now. We will be responsible for everything if it becomes our stadium. The council cant wait to sell just to free up their responsibility....Everyone wants our own stadium that we can control but the liberty could bankrupt us if we are not careful a few years down the line as we are no further ahead with our plans and paying the lions share.......I say Wait....

Faced with that level of constraint, the best option may be to build new somewhere .... but where.

If we did try and build elsewhere then the council would put a massive huddle in our way on the planning application front, as it's not in their best interest for another stadium to be built. We would have to move, probably outside of the councils boundary to get a new stadium built.

I attended various meetings before the liberty was built and some businessmen were pleading the council not to build at white rock as it is not adequate place to have it. Remember nobody knew then how successful we would get and even laughed at us one day playing in the top league...........little did we know at that time..<laugh> I hope we see sense and not charge in like a bull at a gate because we can buy the stadium on the cheap...not yet anyway.
