Ramsey refuses to rule out permanent QPR role

QPR's caretaker boss Chris Ramsey refused to rule himself out of contention for the permanent role, saying he would "jump at the chance" to manage a Premier League team of a full-time basis.

Ramsey was placed in joint control of the first team alongside Kevin Bond following Harry Redknapp's sudden resignation at Loftus Road last week.

Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood - who employed Ramsey as part of his backroom team at White Hart Lane - is the clear favourite to take control of the Premier League strugglers.

Ramsey has spoken to Sherwood regarding the vacancy, but was coy on his own chances ahead of QPR's trip to Sunderland on Tuesday.

"I'd be a liar to say I haven't [spoken to Sherwood] because you speak to lots of people you know in the game about the job," he said.

"I said this on Saturday from my personal point of view as a coach and having gone the long way round if you got offered the chance to manage a Premier League team you'd have to jump at the chance.

"[But] more importantly for me in my job as a coach is that QPR stay above that line at the end of the season whether it's me or anyone else."

QPR travel to Sunderland without top-scorer Charlie Austin, while defensive duo Richard Dunne and Nedum Onuoha are also sidelined.

That means experienced pair Bobby Zamora and Rio Ferdinand are likely to come into contention and Ramsey believes they could be crucial to QPR's hopes of beating the drop.

"Rio and Bobby are two of the older pros and they will be key with their experience," he said. "Even though I didn't pick Rio at the weekend he was always in my plans for this game, even before the injuries."

I don't think we'll give it to him due to lack of experience. But who knows, he could be good. In this business, you have to prove that and work your way up.

well his opening gambit was playing Hill at left back and Ned at right so if we want to spend the next 2 years going backwards even faster... lets get him in.

Rio and Bobby FFS. I would pick Hill ahead of Rio every day. I would prefer to see Zarate, Vargas, Taarabt start ahead of Bobby.

The commentators on the game Saturday clamed the team was picked by Les Ferdinand. They also said he'd been in the dressing room at half time.

Lets give Chris a few games before we start judging his performance as a coach. I think even Arsene Wenger or Jose Mourinho would struggle a bit with our very unbalanced plus injured squad at present.

Ozzie, that was Ray Houghton you were listening to. I've had to endure his commentary for years and trust me, take everything that man says with a pinch of salt.

FiurFourTwo has not given an accurate account of what was said in the pre match press conference. This guy is no fool, I think we could do alot worse than giving him till the end of the season. He has worked closely with our academy players for the last few months so knows their abilities and will select whoever is 100% up for the fight, Isn't that what we have been asking for all season?

It was him right. Most of them talk so much rubbish, I don't listen too carefully. But I think he said that.

I do not believe that we would be any further ahead with Sherwood at the helm - Ramsey conducts himself in a very very professional manner and seems to know which way is up - I'd rather leave him in charge for a few games, rather than taking Sherwood on a cut-throat 3 year £2 million/year contract - prefer a performance based clause, i.e. you keep us up, you get to take home a large bonus.

Read another way, Sherwood has called Fernandes' bluff and is holding out for his contract, meanwhile our owners continue to prioritise cost cutting above all else and are now planning a fire sale in the Summer when we go down

I'd prefer Adkins, in the same way I would prefer to lose my left arm if forced to choose between the two.

Fernandes is screwing everything up, he should have sacked Harry and got in Pulis before the transfer window but instead he backs Harry, blocks any players coming in and sells Mutch. Now we are left with a weak squad and no manager...... way to go Tony!

I dont really see what sherwood gives us above Ramsey - one has a few months more experience in temporary charge. We could get Marcelo Lippi for less than Sherwood is asking
