You are right, Wigley was a coach at Man City. Easy with hindsight I know, but when I saw Mills play for the reserves and youth team, he did look like someone who would become very decent and a natural leader. But to be fair, he did nothing at Man City and went on loan for a couple of seasons before finding his feet at Doncaster and then Reading. So shows that players shouldn't give up when rejected by "big clubs" (if that means us and Man City)
although to be fair, he did nothing at Man City and then went on loan for a couple of seasons before finding his feet at Doncaster and then Reading. So proves that some players are later bloomers and also not to get too downhearted if released by big clubs early in your career.
It is a lot and strange when you hear that Clichy went to Man City for £7m. Although he may have been in the last year of his contract. But when has the transfer market ever made sense?
He wasnt given enough game time, the potental was there. The same happened with Martin Craine, who fell behind Calum Davenport and Jacobsson ffs Both forgotten by Redknapp and Burley.
He swore at the Reading fans when they booed the teams performance once, which of course they took in a bad way considering the way they are. £5 million is ridiculous and I really do hope Leicester fail.
We'd offered Mills a new contract which ran out that summer. Man City came in with a bid of £250K and Mills told the club he wasn't willing to sign a new deal so it was either get £250K or him leave for nothing a few years later. As said above he did look a good prospect and he didn't get a chance to make an impact with us which is a shame, but £5mil for him is absolutely ridiculous. When Owen Coyle said he wanted around £20mil for Gary Cahill I thought that was sky high but if Mills is worth £5m Cahill is worth every penny!
