Liverpool come into the match in seventh place on 39 points, while Spurs are in fifth place on 43 points. This will be the 168th time the two clubs have met. The first meeting came on Boxing Day in 1894 when Liverpool, who had been established just two years earlier after a dispute with Everton, played a friendly at Tottenham Marshes in a game won 3-0 by Spurs. A further visit from Liverpool was even less successful in Easter 1895 with Spurs winning 6-0. The first Football League meeting between the two clubs took place at White Hart Lane in November 1909 with Spurs winning 1-0 thanks to a Bert Middlemiss goal. He became the first Spurs player to score against both Merseyside clubs. The reverse fixture that season was won by Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, which had previously been the home of Everton before their move to Goodison Park. All 139 League meetings played to date between Spurs & Liverpool have taken place in the Top Flight of English football. Tottenham's 2-1 First Division win at Anfield in March 1912 would be their last at the ground for 73 years with the jinx finally being broken by a Garth Crooks goal in 1-0 win in March 1985. The first FA Cup meeting came in the 5th Round in March 1968 and resulted in a 1-1 draw at the Lane. Liverpool won the replay 2-1. To date, the clubs have met 7 times in the competition with Tottenham's only win coming at Anfield in the 6th Round in March 1995 when goals from Teddy Sheringham and Jurgen Klinsmann earned a 2-1 victory. We'll need another big performance to get a win from this game and Liverpool will definitely up their game after their bore draw with Everton. A draw wouldn't be a bad result.
Liverpool have been our bogey team in recent years so it's very annoying that Sturridge is just back fit. Tough game but we're playing well right now. I wouldn't start Fazio given how Liverpool play with so much pace. Think I'd take a point...
Oh great, I always fear the referee with a trip to Klanfield and having seen Dowd gift the Dippers a penalty for that comical Joe Allen dive at WHL earlier in the season, I can see us on the wrong end of some more favourable Pool refereeing on Tuesday.
Guaranteed penalty for Liverpool, get a bet on it that's a 10 out of 10. Fat Dowd loves the adulation of the Liverpool fans.
and it'll be a nailed on certainty that fat phil will deny us a definate penalty while running away backwards waving his hands and shaking his head in the style of an arrogant twat! (see adebayors claim in the match at whl in aug)
Phil Dowd either had a tapeworm or got liposuction 2 summers ago and he's already nearly back to the same size. Hope he doesn't read this thread before the match
Amazed Dowd is actually allowed to referee, the Premier League is the fastest-paced league in the world and here we have a fat bloke trying to take charge of a game of some of the most elite athletes.
no chance of him reading this.....turning the laptop on would feel too much like exercise to fat phil
Woops, I must've posted this off the wrong account. good job I didn't use my Trixter WHUFC one and really blow my cover Nah, 6061's a busy man and I'm not so I said I'd put these articles up.
I saw Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby and I really think we can turn them over. I'm going for a 2-1 win to Spurs.
if they play like that and we repeat our goon performance then it'll be a massacre... but the much more likely spurs thing is for us to play like liverpool did v everton and for them to play like we did...you know I am talking sense!
Interesting how we play Liverpool after we've both been involved with local derbies. I've already thought about 1-2 6061 but I just hope we're not brought crashing back down to earth.
If we play like we did in that game then I'm sure you will, we were lackluster and that game was definitely an anomaly in what has otherwise been a positive new year for us. I am hoping that playing at home, and against a team that wants to play football, will mean we get back to playing well tomorrow night.
It especially puts this Spurs team at a disadvantage as our fitness levels are so high, we often only stamp our authority in the final third of the game, at which point Dowd must be on the verge of cardiac arrest and keen to stop and disrupt the game as often as possible to catch his breath.
