They wanted the draw and got it. But then again Rodgers set up for a draw to. Awful awful game. Just terrible. Allen and Gerrard are tossers, they're like a layer of grease that slows the ball down as it passes through
To drop Sterling back in to the position where he's played his best football for us, and, leaving Moreno and Ibe on to provide the width and support for Lambert. Didn't work ultimately, but on another day Rodgers would of threw the game by over committing.
I'm fine with dropping Sterling back. Completely fine with it. But we need Coutinho on the pitch as well. Sterling will use his pace to threaten from deep, but Coutinho will probe and open up space and has far superior passing. Gerrard should have made way and would have done if it wasn't such a big occasion for him.
I'd have left Coutinho AND Sterling on, Gerrard should have been coming off. He was anonymous and knackered but Brod played the sentiment card.
Lucas sadly went off. Can should have been brought into midfield and a defender brought on. Gerrard should have been off at half time for Sturridge, with Coutinho and Sterling playing behind. That all went to sh!t though and we even brought Lambert on.
On a day that Tottenham and Southampton won again, Liverpool drop more points. What is Rodgers doing subbing off Coutinho and then Sterling off. Sahko had a mare today, lost ball a few times in dangerous positions.
I don't disagree with you mate, just see some sense in what Rodgers was trying to do. As for Gerrard, he was bad today but set piece, 89th minute.. I know who I want over it. Tbh, just happy we got another clean sheet.
As a neutral I didn't understand taking Coutinho off that early, isn't he sorta your creative midfielder type who's there to make things happen and create chances for your forwards?
If Rodgers was thinking about having two forwards up top and swinging in balls from out wide, he's lost the plot. Our whole team has been built (by him) on quick passing, pressing and moving. So he takes off our quickest player and our best passer/mover... I think sentiment ruled today at the expense of common sense. I don't think a single (sane) fan would have left Gerrard on for 90 minutes and took off Coutinho and Sterling (unless there were injuries - but even then, Markovic surely). Sentiment has no place in football. As an aside, Allen was ok when he came on. Not the same as Lucas, but he did a job. Hope the injury isn't serious though
Sterling's been hobbling about on that right ankle for about three or four games now but we're still playing him regardless. I understand wanting to rest players with the fixtures starting to pile up but what is half hour going to actually do? If we need, we need our best players on the pitch. And yes, I know Gerrard's made a career out of scoring important goals but those days have long gone unless we get a penalty. I'm not blaming Gerrard either BTW. And I certainly don't agree with you calling him a tosser after that game either
Still a good performance regardless and we were unlucky not to win, while limiting them to only 1 shot on target. Certainly heading in the right direction and if we can nick a win against Spurs on Tuesday then 4 points won't be the worst from the two games.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Sky Sports: "I though we were outstanding over the course of the game. You don't know until you put a young player in how he is going to perform but Jordon Ibe only turned 19 in December. He puts a shift in and he's only going to get better. We had a lot of outstanding British talent in the team." On securing a top-four finish: "We're still fighting and in a good position. It was important we got something from tonight. Our level of performances are at a high level."
Sorry but totally disagree with Allen. Saw him pass forward maybe twice. I saw him muscled off the ball more times than I saw any attacking intent. The lad is useless. Serves no point to the team and his role is utterly redundant to the way we want to be playing. Still, I don't think we'd have scored for weeks. This was an awful game with awful decisions. I don't see it as a half-full situation. Dropped points, failure to gain ground on our rivals (who are pulling away) and a lack of urgency from everyone on the pitch. We actually time-wasted at the end. Our defenders are ****ing idiots that don't understand how to launch attacks and our midfielders are more concerned with not losing face than actually doing anything meaningful.
