So what exactly is it that we are "returning to"?

In the post I quoted you give some examples of Monks team playing the
    Swansea way.
We don't play that way anymore <laugh>

Then, you state that even the reserves played that way v Everton
Now 5/6 changes is justification for parking the bus (not that we set out that way or even executed such a plan very well) against Southampton

Do you know what's even funnier still?
By your own logic we have to attribute those good performances to Laudrup, as they invariably involved his signings and were just a few short weeks after he left...as soon as Monk got his hands on the team and started doing things his way the football turned to ****.

But he has the best record in the Premier League out of our last three managers.

Let's give him until the end of the season on that claim.

Claim? It's fact. After 37 league games Monk has Laudrup and Rodgers beat for both win per league game played ratio and points per league game played. How exactly does waiting until the end of the season alter the record of the 37 games?!

I find the harping on about previous managers a bit tiresome but as you've asked it's because most fans aren't interested in a 37 game record over two seasons. It's what the team achieves at the end of a full season. At the moment we're out of the cups so Laudrup is more successful. At the end of the season we can see where we are in the League and whether he's bettered his predecessor's record, and I hope he does. Taking stats over part of two seasons means nothing.

For the record I think Laudrup's record will be intact for some time - 8th and a Cup win is hard to beat.

Something from 'The Swansea Way': just putting it into the mix.

Read between the lines, the 37 games is indicative of alot more than just results over parts of two different seasons. This is what board of directors see and there is a good reason why they run multi million pound football clubs and "most fans" don't.

I don't agree at all. While the ultimate stat is a season and what people will remember most (i.e. we finished 9th or we got 48 points or whatever), at present we have to judge Monk over split seasons because he hasn't yet finished a full season and it gives a good indication of where he's heading.

I agree that you can only judge Monk on the time he's been in charge and that is across two seasons - so that makes sense. But it's a ridiculous argument that anyone can say he's the most successful manager in recent times because he simply hasn't had a full season. Is his record really an "indication of where he's heading"? Look how inconsistent we've been for goodness sake. If we end up 8th in May then Laudrup pips him because of the Cup. If he gets 7th or higher then there is an argument. Bottom half and he's nowhere near.

Anyway, off to the game now. COYS! :emoticon-0135-makeu

Also more likely to lose games under Monk.
And more likely to fall asleep watching.
There were long discussions going on around me (East) about the Wales England game for most of today's game.

I actually thought we played well as a team today and were very good at times, just lacking some intensity but not for the first time this season. If anyone was sleeping or talking about the egg chasers they might consider giving their season ticket to someone who wants to watch the game. Plenty on the waiting list.

Lack of quality final ball & numbers in the box more like!! This has been a Swans issue for successive managers. One quality ball (Naughton), result - goal Ki..

It's the next rung up the ladder from being 'apoplectic with rage'.

I would say his record is a better indication of where's he's heading than, say, the opinion of a certain group of posters on this forum. <ok>

For the sake of correctness, ML finished 9th, not 8th. <ok>

What are we now, 13 points better off than this stage last season? That speaks volumes in itself.

There is no doubt we have moved away from how we have played, since martinez put in place our style. We now seem to have lost the slick quick passing and movement and seem to be a lot more laborious in possession and a bit more direct. On times players seem to slip back in to the style and that is wehn we look at or most dangerous.

I love the points we have at this stage of the season, but we are not very pretty on the eye anymore.
