Shakey is phenomenal live. Seen him several times, and every time he does something unexpected. Someone one said he was erratic, to which he replied " yes, consistently erratic"

Hendrix was vastly overrated. Just a bunch of notes played at random which he could not reproduce live. A poor man's Bill Nelson really.
This is a joke right? The reason he chose not to repoduce each song note for note live is called improvisation, and this takes a **** ton of skill!
There's a small argument for saying Hendrix was technically overrated. But his innovation for electric music and the guitar was beyond anyone. The guy was a genius
Nonsense. Any tosser could get up and "improvise" and play something entirely different to what was recorded jst to disguise the fact that they are hopeless musicians. Hendrix was a harlot and a charlatan. A very good one though. Technically however he was next to inept compared to true guitar musicians like Dave Gilmour, Jimmy Page, Bill Nelson, Stuart Adamson etc. In reality Hendrix was just lazy and played anything that came into his head, negating the need to be proficient at his music. It never ceases to amaze me how so many people fall for it, to be honest.
How about you learn to play guitar before commenting on such matters. then you will understand the quality Hendrix had.

And improvising isn't just playing 'anything'. You have to stick to a key and scales, stay in time with the backing and tempo, move between scales on the neck. Not to mention a host of techniques like turnarounds, rythem/solo playing at the same time! And to do all this as you go takes serious skill! All the best blues guitar players did it this way...
That is absolute bollocks... 2 of the names you just mentioned improvised heavily live (Gilmour and Page) Page especially, who would never keep things to the same as in the studio. Improvising is an art and one that is incredibly difficult to master. You can tell your not a musician.
I suppose this is the case for all the great Jazz musicians as well is it? The best Jazz is improvisational. The ability to improvise great pieces of music is a far more impressive quality than the ability to play scripted music note for note.
Hendrix leaves me cold.He shouldve had the sense to get in tow with someone who could sing, write some songs, and get a band that were more than a couple of hired stooges who kept a beat while he did some tricks with a cry baby and a lighter fuel. Maybe I just cant respect a man daft enough to choke on his own vomit.
