Can was moved to the centre against Bolton in 2nd half so wonder if Lovren would be moved to tcb with can centrally
I didn't say he was a leader, I said he started to show some leadership skills. He was the captain at a very young age at PSG so he obviously has something about it, we've just not seen much of it whilst he's been at Liverpool, probably down to the language barrier.
........and the fact that he's spent a large part of his Liverpool career so far sat on the bench......
Had forgotten about Illori tbh! Is he getting game time in France? (or wherever he ended up - think it was France!)
Going back to Lovren - he's been rank everywhere he's been. He's an average defender and Rodgers was daft enough to buy into the hype that he was a 'leader' and one of the best defenders in the league. Pretty much failed at every club bar a brief spell where he had one of the strongest CM pairings in front of him. You're right - he can be better if protected. But at the end of the day, you're just carrying a passenger.
And Can is far more defensive minded than Yaya Toure. Can is perfect to sit in the middle of a back 3 or as the deepest mid.
I see what you did there Tobes even went as far as bring it up at a management meeting at work in his desperation to find someone who agreed with him
Nope -they had a chance to sign him at Lyon for less than half the price and turned him down. It wasn't until Carragher started bigging him up last season which formed the basis for Rodgers's rationale on signing such a mediocre player. I know you're takinng the p*ss but I just can't help myself!!
He needs to start being played in the Lucas role, he'd establish himself as a great DM. Also you'll get the odd burst through the midfield like he does so well. Once our defense finally gets sorted he has to play there.
This. Desperate for us to get proper defenders to partner Sakho, we need to get Can and Henderson as our midfield pairing.
so much for bigging up Can and saying he is comparable to yaya Toure. FFS he was poor today. Lets stop giving "awards" to our players who perform well for one or two matches. We know what happens to the manager of the month as soon as they get the award. they lose their next match.
Harsh to say he was poor. Yes, he got caught in possession a couple of times but considering he wasn't the only one and its Brod that tells them to play their way out of trouble I'm not sure you can put the blame entirely on Can's shoulders. I also think a bit of credit to Everton is due since they did their homework; they knew Can and Sakho are are ball players at the back so they didn't give either any time. In complete contrast, they let Skrtel have as much time as he liked.
