It really is interesting. Obviously everyone is different but this thread highlights it perfectly. I literally cannot comprehend how anyone could possibly think The Office is ****. Have you not got a heart? Even if you dont find Gervais funny surely it's impossible to reach the end with the specials and not to have something in your eye when Dawn comes back for Tim or to feel a rush of adrenaline as Brent finally says "Chris, why don't you **** off?" As a tv show, not a comedy, for me it is simply incomparable.
****ing Breaking Bad.... If ever there was an Emperor's New Clothes then this is it. For me, hands down, THE most overrated TV show of all time and it is completely average in every way imaginable. I dont understand how it is so big and hardly anyone watches the wonderful Hannibal.
Game of Thrones is truly fantastic, can't wait for it to start again in May, not watched Breaking Bad yet, but another that should be up there, if we're straying away from comedy, is Vikings, which starts again, I believe, on the 19th of this month.
I think that, as with music threads, in most cases you can make a good guess at the age of posters going by their likes and dislikes. Not in all cases obviously but in general.
I have to be honest and I thought I would hate GoT. I imagined a kind of Lord of the Rings a-like experience with big footed twats going on a ****ing long walk and literally nothing happening whatsoever. I ****ing despise LotR. But, as always, rather than just dismiss something without actually trying it I did watch and - **** me - it really is exceptional. Every single episode is tv at its finest and the trailer for the new series looks incredible.
Yes, same here with Vikings. The lead in that looks like the 10th century equivalent of a football hooligan. With that piercing glare from his eyes you can imagine him at the head of a bunch of nutters kicking off on the way to a match.
I thought the same as you when I first saw it and gave up. Then junior bought the box set and told me it was great. I binge watched while the family were away last summer and totally changed my mind.
Yes, exactly the same here, I can't stand shows like Lord of the Rings, things to do with 'Middle Earth' and all that bollocks, but Game of Thrones, as you say, is truly exceptional.
Lol, indeed, you could send Ragnar Lothbrok on his own to take on the Inter City Firm and he'd come back victorious.
Ah but that's the thing, everyone is told it is great and then they believe it. Like I say, Emperor's New Clothes. Do I have to add IMO at the end or, as I'm saying it, cant we just assume its IMO?
The Song of Ice and Fire books are some of the best I have read. I was dreading the TV series would cock it up as so many have done in the past. They didn't, it is the one and only TV show I will make the effort to watch when transmitted rather than just recording and maybe watching later.
I didn't believe it at first despite many people telling me it was great. I gave it a second try and got hooked.
I haven't seen it but it sounds similar to the benard Cornwall 'saxon stories' books, they're immense. Must give this viking a watch.
Parks and Recreation just seemed like an extension of the US version of the Office to me, with less funny characters, watched the first two series before several of the characters started really grating on me, especially the nurse and Rob Lowes awful friend.
The writer did say they were massively influenced by The Office (UK) and basically nicked it wholesale.
I'm looking for a new series to get into, ideally one on Netflix cos I've just got the trial. Problem is I find most of them boring. I haven't seen Breaking Bad but from what I know about it I don't get how it can be enjoyable to watch at all. I know everyone loves it but, why?
