May I also just add that if the overall consensus is to lock it I will respect that with no problem. Uuuuuuu Rrrrrrrrr's!
I'd like to be the first the call for a ban. I'll let you know who once I've had a little time to think about it.
I tend to just look at the threads that I want to look at and ignore the ones that I don't....................................
I think the Paris thread was one of the best threads on here for a long time. I enjoy the music thread, but find the word association and three-word threads tedious - they don't even work most of the time. Perhaps we could have a 'Punners Corner' thread?
This might go on for a while. It'd be a bit like the Word Association thread with no word count limit and nobody trying to be funny....
I'm still curious as to which thread the OP was referring to? OT posts have never annoyed me as long as they are clearly marked as such. I think it is partly the strange digital world that we inhabit that confuses boundaries. It is natural to discuss everything and anything with mates and some folks treat the virtual relationships on this board in the same way. I've done it myself when I asked what cars people drive and what they might recommend. So, an OT thread is started in the same way that you might have a chat about something over tea at work or in the pub of an evening. However, having never made to the C&S meet-ups, it generally does not occur to me to discuss my politics, musical, literary or other preferences on here with virtual mates. If anyone can be bothered, they might check to see if OT threads are started more often by those who've actually met other members of this board. Random thoughts. Will stop.
Maybe LIUTB is talking about something completely different and all you responders are barking up the wrong tree, or is it bush?
Just close down the hate threads. Everything else OT is fine. The Liverpool board and its moderators managed to handle the subject in a rational manner, shame the same wasn't possible here.
In all seriousness threads on atrocities, hate crime, ethnicity, religion etc should be closed immediately as they bring trouble and argument and descend into insults. Myself I refrain from posting concerning the disgusting presence of *****philes among the ruling political party, the opposition and a the ensuing cover ups and corruption that go all the way. Well we know where they go. http://www.exaronews.com/channel/uk
If any thread descends to insults or potential trouble, the moderators will deal with it. Are you suggesting that the recent Paris thread should have been immediately closed? I agree with you wholeheartedly regarding the *****phile cover-up by the way.
Each to their own but a filter option to hide those were not interested in would be a superb addition. It would inevitably add to posts and traffic on the site. Most people have limited time, the less you spend on it scanning through would help keep it to things that interest you and more likely to contribute. That would include qpr related but for an individual you may think has run it's course. Would be brilliant IMO but not sure if it's possible.
I am sorry I have to disagree, we have OT threads and in it we try and discuss things of current relevance. Threads should not be closed IMMEDIATELY as they might bring trouble.. that is wrong We allow free speech in this country, on this board..we trust that people do not abuse each other..things need to be open and discussed. Stories and allegations should not be hidden, and kept from view, they should be open and discussed...You Imaz have brought up an excellent example how people in power have hidden the *****phile rings...we in our little microcosm world need keep open our lines of communication. free speech here and respect please...
Agreed. I think many of us have managed to maintain mature debates on a whole variety of subjects without resorting to offensive language. It's actually quite easy: all you have to do is maintain respect for the other party even if you have little respect for their argument. I think the likes of you, me and Stanners do this pretty well, even if I'm right all of the time and the pair of you are largely wrong.
