With hair or without ........... or perhaps they should do an Andy Carroll on him <laugh>

To be fair, it's 60 years since they won a current major trophy ........ perhaps they're just desperate.

Injury mainly. When fit he was probably first name on the teamsheet.
I think at the absolute height of his earning power he was on about 50k a week. Even a decade ago, there were clubs in England and abroad beginning to touch 100k.
Granted but I don't sing that song <laugh>

100k a decade ago. Who and which players ........ better to admit now that you've exaggerated otherwise I'll be forced to prove you wrong.

When he was offered the manager's job he wanted 2-5 million a year iirc ........ so much for a committed Geordie.

I don`t see a problem tbh. If the mags think he`s great and they want a statue of him that`s fine. It`s up to them but at least get one with a likeness so they can tell who it is. That thing in the OP could be anybody.

Great example Billy .......... could've left for any amount of clubs but stayed at Southampton.

One of the most talented players we've ever had ........... better than Hoddle & Gascoigne in my opinion.

90% of the Geordie Nation have spoken Pops .... who are we to argue?

No statue of anyone to do with the Trade Fairs Cup though, which is a disgrace imo.

I think it's too soon to consider having a statue of him anyway. This is only really being mentioned as there's nothing else happening at the club and wont be for many years. No way Ashley would agree to it, pretty sure they aren't on good terms.

If anyone wants to argue that he hasn't been one of the best strikers of the Premiership era then feel free but various professionals, managers and - most importantly - the stats say otherwise. Not the most skilful but just did the simple things very well.

    Shearer was paid a f
He was good but won nowt at Newcastle and was nowhere near one of the best in the world.

If he deserves a statue then George Robledo deserves a bigger one ....... 2 FA Cups and a better scoring record.

Top ten easily but not top 2-3. Henry, Bergkamp and Zola better imo but it isn't easy to judge. There's no getting around the amount of goals he got and number of hat-tricks but he wasn't actually that skilful, just a quality bruiser. Like a rich mans Kevin Doyle.

Perhaps at Blackburn but be serious, one of the best in the PL <doh>

Hi scoring record, at Blackburn, was twice that at Newcastle .............. he won the league with them and nothing else in his entire career.

That puts him in the top 30 at best.

I hardly think its embarrassing to argue he's been one of the best in the premiership era:

Shearer 260 goals; Next best 187

Think you're a touch blinkered on this one smug. He scored that many despite the fact he was at a pretty poor Newcastle team at times. Most impressive in terms of scoring is probably Lampard though 176 goals from a midfielder, insane.

Not really mate, I'm not saying he wasn't a good striker but he didn't do anything meriting a statue at Newcastle.

He won nowt, relegated the club & is quite critical these days.

Oh fair points about the statue, he wouldn't be on my list for top few people to merit it. His best scoring and only real achievements weren't for us and I think he actually doesn't mind seeing us doing badly at times as he and our owner seem to really not get on!

I was at Marseilles and cheered him when he scored against Tunisia ........... but he wasn't ever one of the best in the world.

I doubt he'll be remembered much outside of the UK tbh.

In the PL I'd say there are many strikers who'd come above him.
