Modric to be told he cannot leave Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham's Luka Modric is expected to hold talks with chairman Daniel Levy to discuss his future - and will be told he is not for sale. The midfielder has been linked with a move to Chelsea, who have a had a £22m bid for the Croatian turned down. BBC Sport understands the 25-year-old could meet Levy as early as Wednesday evening. This could either show modders and the rest of the team how serious we are about pushing on next season. Or this could really piss Modders off and he'll hand in a transfer request as soon as he touches down in London. Thoughts? Modric recently hinted he would welcome a move to Chelsea, but Levy responded by insisting he was "not for sale".
The meeting is nothing to worry about... http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...stand-firm-over-chelsea-interest-2299988.html
Music.......No it broke out on the bbc website this morning. Notsosmartspur......I read that article, it looked to sit on the fence really as to weather or not he's staying. We all know Modric is key to us progressing next season. I have read some people on here saying that if Modric goes then it's not such a big deal because we have Niko to fill the gap. Now I highly rate Niko, but he is no where the quality of Modric. His vision is incredible and his spacial awareness gives him so much time when he gets the ball the pick the right pass. With a decent striker Modders will pick him out all day long.
Anyone else see Levy on SSN leaving WHL, he confirmed again that Modric will not be sold this summer and that the player understands the situation.
Levy's comments have been totally final so far. If he goes back on them, even under massive pressure, then he'll look pretty silly.
hinted he would welcome a move to Chelsea ------------------------------------------------- No he didn't, he said he would leave if Spurs were prepared to sell, and got hideously mis-quoted.
I'm actually glad that Modric has mooted the possibility about moving to Chelsea to win things, because it will focus Levy's mind on making the team stronger. It's clear to any Spurs fan that has followed Moddy' rise to prominence at our club that he loves it at Spurs and has been an integral part of a very happy squad; and that the only reason why he would ever contemplate leaving is if he believed that we were moving backwards rather than forwards with the development of our squad. The press isn't interested in the welfare of Spurs or the belief that we fans have in our strengths and ambitions, all it is interested in is creating mischief and sensationalism in order to sell its rags. We know from previous battles that Levy is one the last people in football you want to start a fight with. He took on the full might of the richest club in the world (namely, United), and was only undone because HIS player, Berbatov, undermined him and made it impossible for the player to stay. But, even then, Levy managed to screw a massive fee out of United - a fee that it didn't want to pay. The equivalent that Chelsea would have to pay today for Moddy would be £60 million plus (based on the way that transfer fees have increased), which is why Harry said the bid of £22 million was laughable. But, as has been said, Levy has made just about the strongest statement that he's ever going to make over any player - that he's not for sale at any price, and will not be leaving WHL. He concluded by saying the matter was closed. We should believe him and leave all further pointless speculation to the gutter press and to Chav WUMs.
Thanks, Ensil. God forbid we always agree, but I rather suspect that, when it all comes down to it, we both have a deep, deep passion for our club. Sometimes, the way we each express that may divide us, but ultimately the passion will always unite us
That's why the Spurs board is and always will be the best. A mutual love of the club and understanding that not all fans think alike, but generally read from the same page
WHL. I would still like to hear from Luka himself that he's staying because Levy has convinced him of the club's ambition. What I don't want to hear is the old, "I've got a contract, so I'm staying" meaning "I'm only staying because I am being forced to" that won't work ultimately, as the Goons are finding out now. You can't hang on to a player whose head is elsewhere. You have to turn it back - or let him go.
Nowsuffering... Yeah, me too. I don't profess to know that much about the man himself, but Moddy has always come across as a very shy lad. He's never sought the limelight, and he's always seemed to just get on with doing his job (one of the reasons why I love him so much as a professional player). My strong suspicion is that he'll be content for the club to do the talking for him. I also believe that he was led astray by a rogue agent trying to cash in our having missed out on CL footy, and thinking he can make himself some easy money. I despise agents. I even feel sorry for the predicament that the Gooners now find themselves in, with the disruption that has been caused to their club. That's how much I despise agents!
I just posted this on another thread....... I'd still really like Modders to come out and publicly state that he is staying with us to achieve great things. Not just because Levy said to him you're not going anywhere. I think it's important for the fans to get piece of mind from him that he WANTS to stay with us.
I take your point, WHL. I've always believed that this whole thing was conceived, and carried out, by Modrics' agent and The Chavs (read Abramovich). They seem to know so little about Levy that they thought they could force through a transfer on advantageous terms to them both. No wonder Levy was so pissed off. I wonder what that scumbag Russian promised the agent if he got the deal through?? Having said that, I would still like to hear Luka say that he's staying because he has been convinced of the club's ambitions - not because he's been bluntly told that he's going nowhere. Like I said, in the longer run, as nice a guy as he may be, that ain't gonna work for anybody.
