I am. I was merely highlighting how easy it is for a non-red top newspaper to get things wrong. You brought up the Scotsman, not me
Like I said, not in the same class as the red tops. Can you explain to us why Scotzine, that is owned and run by a Celtic fan would lay all the blame on the Celtic support? Did they get it wrong too?
I'm not arguing over who's to blame or not. I'm merely keeping the argument with you going because we're all pissing ourselves laughing at how long you're willing to keep this discussion going. Seriously, we've placed bets and everything
You're all pissing yourselves. Who you and Dev. Oh yeah that one. Defeated in an argument and he comes off with, yeah we're just doing this to keep it going. Its quite clear who was to blame and your failure to answer there yet again cements it.
The Scotzine article was "lifted" directly from the Scotsman which (as far as you have shown) is the only newspaper who actually said it was Celtic fans who were arrested. Scotzine's source is The Scotsman. Do you deny that? The Scotsman's source (as I have shown) is the News South Wales Police's Press release.Do you deny that? You said your primary concern was that misbehaviour by Celtic fans would show Scottish football in a bad light. You can rest easy then because the Scotsman report has hardly echoed around the world has it? Have any other newspapers picked this story up, any other news agencies? Have you read any criticism anywhere of Scottish Football based solely upon the events in Australia? The Scotsman has a tiny readership, even within Scotland so I fail to see how your worries about Scottish Football's image are justified. The Scotsman Readership: 154,000 (NRS Apr 10 - Mar 11) Circulation: 43,332 (ABC Jul - Dec 2010) Circulation: 41,271 (ABC May 2011) Your attempt to point score is obvious, you have no real concerns over our game's image, it was just a convenient, albeit pathetic excuse.
I know a guy who was at the game. He is a birmingham city fan but he was in ra shellick end. should we ask him?
he did aye. and a load of part time shellick fans knowing what he's like, I'd say he was turned away at the gate
Scotzine article Celtic kicked off their pre-season friendlies with a 1-0 defeat to Australian outfit Central Coast Mariners. A late goal from Troy Hearfield earned the Mariners a win, despite being under the cosh for much of the game. Despite the defeat, Lennon was pleased with the workout his players received. However the spectacle for the Sydney crowd was ruined by some elements of the Celtic support, revelling in watching their side playing Down Under, as pitch invasions and drunkenness reigned supreme. Neil Lennon gave his fringe players and two new signings the chance to gain some valuable match practice and to see what they could do against last seasonâs A-League runners-up. However it was a case of Celticâs inabilities coming to the fore once again, as slack defending and a lack of chances proved costly for the Parkhead side. Neither side had any chances in the first half, as the keepers were as much spectators at the game, as the fans were, but far less drunk. Into the second half and Celtic dictated the play, however they could not find a way through the stubborn Mariners defence and as the game looked destined for a 0-0 scoreline, and with legs tiring, Celtic conceded a late goal against the run of play. A ball crossed in from the left was poorly cleared by Joe Ledley to the edge of the area, where Troy Hearfield lay in wait picking his spot and curling the ball into the top corner passed substitute keeper Dominic Cervi. Celtic went looking for an equaliser and Hooper had his shot cleared off the line by Marinersâ Sam Gallagher, and there were strong claims for a penalty late on when an Anthony Stokes cross was handled in the box but no penalty was awarded. That was the last action of the game, as Mariners ran out 1-0 winners. Lennon said after the match: âThe playersâ condition and the quality, particularly in the second half was remarkable when you consider the week theyâve been through. Theyâve been travelling all the way over on Tuesday and Wednesday and then one dayâs training, played very, very well in the second half and controlled the game. I thought Mariners scored with their one shot on target but overall Iâm delighted with the performance.â Despite the work out received by the players, the security and police at the stadium also had their own workout as 11 people were arrested at the match for trying to invade the pitch and one supporter was charged with assaulting Police. The Match Commander, Acting Superintendent Mick Rochester, stated that those arrested are set to face fines and bans from further sporting events. On top of those arrested 27 people were kicked out of the ground for being drunk, while just under 50 people were refused entry for drunkenness. Rochester said: âThe message is a simple one â anti-social and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances. If you canât or wonât heed the message, donât attend these events. A sporting event is not an excuse to break the law. If your team isnât performing well, or you disagree with a decision by the referee, you canât react by getting intoxicated, damaging property, assaulting others or making an idiot of yourself. âBe warned. Police and event security staff will continue to act swiftly at sporting and other events to ensure any opportunities to disrupt the enjoyment of others are minimised.â This is another example of why Football and Alcohol do not mix. Recent issues surrounding the Old Firm derbies have been blamed on alcohol, and despite the authorities plans in recent years of changing kick off times, match days etc. the problem still arises. And it is another reason WHY the ludicrous plans of some SPL Chairmen to re-introduce alcohol into our stadiums should never happen. Celtic have two further games in Australia before heading home in preparation for the new season, with the Parkhead side hoping their ex-pat supporters do not continue to shame themselves and the club. Scotsman article NINE male and two female Celtic fans were arrested in Sydney yesterday for attempting to invade the pitch during the Glasgow side's fixture with the Central Coast Mariners. New South Wales Police confirmed that 11 Celtic fans among the 19,482 crowd were arrested after jumping the fence and trying to run on to the pitch during the match at ANZ Stadium, where The Mariners beat Celtic, 1-0. One male Celtic supporter wasADVERTISEMENT charged with assaulting police, while another man was charged with assault. The match was the opening game of the club's three-match pre-season tour of Australia. Acting Superintendent Mick Rochester, commander of the group of officers policing the Celtic match, said those arrested would face fines in the region of £370 and could be banned from the stadium for life. "The message is a simple one â antisocial and criminal behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances," he said. "If you can't or won't heed the message, don't attend these events. A sporting event is not an excuse to break the law. "If your team isn't performing well, or you disagree with a decision by the referee, you can't react by getting intoxicated, damaging property, assaulting others or making an idiot of yourself. "Be warned. Police and event security staff will continue to act swiftly at sporting and other events to ensure any opportunities to disrupt the enjoyment of others are minimised." In addition, 27 people were ejected for being intoxicated, while 47 people were refused entry to the stadium because of drunkenness. Five people were issued with infringement notices for failing to leave when asked, with one of those subsequently arrested. "New South Wales Police are very disappointed with the way that a minority of Celtic fans behaved tonight," a spokeswoman said. "Fans who assaulted police and other fans will be prosecuted through the courts." Not exactly the same are they? And look, yet another picture Ida CELTIC fan being dragged off the pitch. http://www.zoklet.net/bbs/showthread.php?p=2790880#post2790880 That's 4 pics I have seen if Celtic fans 0 Mariner fans.
little by little old Russ' argument is falling away as yet more pictures of his fellow potato herders in action come to light
As we've seen today with the latest revelations surrounding newspapers they have very little credibility so it's hard to believe much of what they write. Plus, Lightfoot/Fife Bear works for the Scotsman and it was probably him who added the bit about them being Celtic fans.
