Posted this on my own board and it statred a good debate thought I would spread it to others.

News of the World and Sky Sports
I am i alone in thinking about ditching Sky as a result of the activities of the News of the World over the taping of phones of victims of crime?

Basically I can not see how the Murdoch press can be seen as a fit and proper organisation to own and run media out lets in the country.

The footballing aspect of this is that if we all dump Sky, then Sky dumps footbal what happens to the income to the clubs.

A number of high profile companies have already indicated that they will not advertise in the papers any more. Evebn with this hanging over them the Sun hid the story away on the inside pages and the times although it ran the story on the front page played it down more that the other papers. So much for a free press!

The only publication I would miss for acurate reporting would be the Times the rest of the Murdoch press are rubish at getting their fact right any way.

The income is seriously reduced as ITV cannot afford to broadcast all matches so many will be on the BBC and also ESPN. It would massively benefit the fans though.

Its pretty disgusting what they have done and the way the have repeatedly tried to cover it up. If this doesn't stop News International taking over BskyB then I don't know what will.

The real trouble is that there's a golden triangle. The Politicians, the Met and News International. You only have to look at the police brutality in the student protests, where wheelchair bound kids were dragged from their chairs and beaten. The met were doing the politicians a favour, while the media portrayed them kindly as long as the Met gave them information and the politicians sanctioned the whole thing.

Get Sky out of football and we'll be able to watch games at a much cheaper price.

The knock on effect is that we will go to having the 5th best league in Europe though. As much as I hate Murdoch's empire SKY have made the premier league what it is today.

I'm glad people are starting to jump on the anti Murdoch bandwagon. It's a shame people didn't support the striking Wapping printworkers in 1985 instead of buying newspapers printed by scabs

If it's taken 26 years for people to start dismantling Murdoch's poisonous empire, then it's still worth it <ok>

I read an article in the Observer where they discussed the possibility of ESPN bidding for the Premiership TV rights. The thought at that time was that ESPN were happy with the status quo as ESPN use Sky cameras and production facilities for their live games

Goonercymraeg, I couldn't have jumped on the anti-Murdoch bandwagon in 1985 as I wasn't even an egg and sperm at that point. And it's only been in the last two or three years that I've been old enough to really be aware of it. I'm only 17 after all, so give me credit. Still, up with the yoof and all that.

On the one hand I like the idea of going back to the 'old days' and football clubs instead of co-orporations but if we went from having players like Nasri, Fabregas and Rvp in our team to being nothing better than Stoke for example then I would be pretty depressed about it.
